The 2023**Emera Employees’ Children Scholarship*
*

The Emera Scholarship for Employees’ Children offers one non-renewable $2,000 award to children/dependents of regular employees or retirees of Emera Inc., Emera Energy, Emera New Brunswick, and Emera Newfoundland & Labrador. Past recipient winners are welcome to re-apply each year.

Please note:Nova Scotia Power & Affiliate companies maintain their own Scholarship Programand therefore children/dependents of regular employees or retirees of Nova Scotia Power are not eligible to apply.__This scholarship will also not be awarded in conjunction with any other Nova Scotia Power Inc. Scholarships or bursaries and will not be awarded for the pursuit of Graduate studies.

Criteria

  • As the applicant, you must be the child of a regular employee or retiree of Emera Inc., Emera Energy, Emera New Brunswick, and/ or Emera Newfoundland & Labrador;
  • A Canadian citizen or landed immigrant;
  • Recipients are selected based on a solid academic record (minimum 75% average), their written essay, (community) leadership, involvement in extracurricular activities and financial need.

Application Requirements**

To qualify please complete the Emera Employees’ Children Scholarship online application form and attach the following mandatory documents:

  • Your resume;
  • Your High School transcript (Grade 10-12, including fall semester marks);
  • A minimum of one (1) reference letter. You may submit up to three (3) letters, however at least one (1) reference is to be completed by your Teacher, Guidance Counsellor, Vice-Principal or Principal;
  • Your budget (click on this template link to open the document).
  • And most important: an essay of max 500 words.

SUGGESTED ESSAY TOPIC:"Why are you a deserving candidatefor this scholarship, and what wouldreceivingthis scholarship mean to you?”

This essay is your opportunity to introduce yourself to the Selection Committee! Please help us get to know you: the person behind the application. Your essay should include your educational and career goals, non-academic attributes such as volunteer work and relevant extracurricular activities and interests, and what receiving this scholarship will mean to you. Just remember to stick to 500 words or less!

Selection Process**

A selection committee, made up of Emera employees, will review all applications and make their decisions based on the following criteria; a solid academic record (minimum 75%), financial need, leadership and service to the community, involvement in extra-curricular activities and your written essay. Shortlisted applicants may be invited for an interview to determine our 2023 recipient.

How to Apply? Please follow the following steps.
Step 1: Make Your Choice

  • Explore our various scholarships and select the one(s) you’d like to apply for.
  • Register to create an applicant profile online; or;
  • If you already have a profile with us, click on “Login Page” at the top right to log in.

Step 2: Complete Requested Information

  • Upload your resume using the “Upload Resume” button;
  • Complete all the necessary fields;
  • Click the next arrow.

Step 3: Upload Your Resume and Attachments

  • Attach your remaining documents using the “Add Attachment” button under the heading “Attachments ”;
  • These documents include: your essay, transcript, reference letters and budget template;
  • Click the next arrow.

Step 4: Review and Submit

  • eSign and select the date;
  • Click on “Application Review” to ensure all documents have been uploaded correctly;
  • Click “Submit”.
