A Day in the Life…

The Accessibility & Inclusion Advisor, in the Human Rights and Equity Office (HRE), will support the Brock campus in the development, implementation, and monitoring of institutional accessibility and inclusion strategies and compliance. The Accessibility & Inclusion Advisor also promotes and fosters inclusivity among members of the University community and plays a leading role in the development and delivery of educational tools, project management and policy support to increase awareness of strategies, initiatives, and resources.

As the Accessibility & Inclusion Advisor, you will:

  • Act as the contact and lead resource for individuals and units seeking answers to Accessibility & Inclusion processes and services at Brock University;
  • Coordinate office activities in support of broadening institutional awareness of best practices for managing and responding to concerns and/or complaints;
  • Provide therapeutic support throughout the intake, consultation and disclosure process;
  • Make appropriate referral to campus and community resources for individuals, groups, or units seeking support;
  • Provide follow-up to ensure all relevant services have been effectively engaged and given consideration following disclosures;
  • Advise supervisors, managers, and other partners on the interpretation of relevant policies, legislation, case law, and codes related to accessibility and inclusion;
  • Develop and coordinate training, programs, customized workshops, presentations, policies and initiatives that ensure legislative compliance and increase awareness;
  • Participate in the process of establishing goals and strategic frameworks to ensure the department achieves its mandates in collaboration with the HRE Director;
  • Assess, provide feedback and assist with policy review for other departments throughout the university to ensure compliance and best practices;
  • Liaise with the external community to maintain an up to date understanding of the accessibility and inclusion landscape and influence policy;
  • Compile, analyze and report statistical information and identify internal and external trends regarding systemic and individual incidents.

What you need to Succeed…

  • Graduate degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Social Work, Social Sciences, Law, Psychology, Social Justice, Equity, Disability Studies);
  • 6-8 years of experience in an area relevant to the position, including time spent leading complex project and policy initiatives within a multi-stakeholder environment;
  • 1-2 years of experience in a leadership, manager, or supervisor role;
  • Third party facilitation, mediation, or conflict resolution training;
  • Education or training in Alternative Dispute Resolution or Restorative Justice;
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation (e.g. Human Rights Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Bill 168, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, etc.) and policies;
  • Proven ability to work effectively and independently within a culturally diverse environment, managing competing priorities and deadlines;
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills;
  • Skilled in providing effective, confidential support when receiving human rights complaints;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including effective verbal and written communication skills and adept listening skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain sound working relationships across the University;
  • Strong judgment, evaluation and reasoning skills.

Preferred or Asset Skills…

  • A Master’s degree in a related field;
  • Training and/or certification in Adult Education; and
  • Training and/or certification in Universal Design for Learning.

Salary and Benefit Information

  • Job Grade M, Salary Scale: $68,600-$117,600*;
  • Target Hiring Range: $68,600-$80,000;
  • This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.

*The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
