Department Information
The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Job Information
Scope
The Northwest Territories (NWT) has significant energy resources including hydroelectricity, oil, natural gas and a variety of alternative energy sources. The Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWTs) legislative and policy framework for energy is aimed at increasing the use of domestic energy resources, increasing the adoption of renewable and sustainable energy and reducing energy costs in the NWT. The Advisor will support this overall mandate through the provision of detailed policy and economic analysis, planning and reporting aimed at increasing the use of domestic energy resources, enhancing security and predictability of supply, and reducing long- term NWT energy supply costs. The Advisor leads energy policy development process through the applications of policy research, analysis, advice, development, implementation, and evaluation methods. The Advisor will seek out and provide advice regarding potential federal, territorial and/or non-government sources of financing for planning and development activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Sciences, Resource Management, Business Administration or Economics; and , a minimum of five (5) years of experience in energy planning, including exposure to energy development and management concepts.
Equivalencies consisting of a post-secondary program with 10 years relevant experience may be considered.

Salary Information
The salary for this position starts at $53.80 per hour (approximately $104,910) per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
