Position Description

The Department of Medicine of McGill University invites applications for a full-time Clinician-Investigator, Clinician-Teacher or Clinician-Educator at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The candidate will be appointed to clinical practice in the Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine at the MUHC. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The MUHC Division of General Internal Medicine is a dynamic group of sub-specialists who provide high-quality patient-centered care for patients with acute or chronic complex medical conditions, including the care of patients throughout the perioperative period and patients with medical disorders of pregnancy. We practice across the MUHC teaching hospital network that includes the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Montreal General Hospital, the Lachine Hospital, and the Montreal Neurological Hospital. We also provide on-site and telehealth sub-specialty support to the northern communities in Nunavik and Eeyou Istchee. We are a welcoming group of clinicians and researchers who take pride in our nationally renowned programs in hospital medicine, ambulatory care, medical education, perioperative care, obstetric medicine, thrombosis medicine, quality improvement and indigenous community outreach. Job Duties

As a Clinician-Investigator, you will focus on directing a research program of sufficient calibre to publish in peer-reviewed journals and obtain funding from peer-reviewed agencies. The candidate interested in a Clinician-Investigator position will be expected to devote between 25-50% of their time to research.

Clinical responsibilities will include a commitment to medical inpatient and consultation services (in-patient and emergency departments) across the MUHC network, as well as to outpatient clinics in complex care, preoperative care, and vascular health care.

As a Clinician-Teacher, your major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians, including both didactic and clinical teaching.

As a Clinician-Educator, you will focus on education research of sufficient caliber to publish in peer-reviewed journals or education administration with a focus on leading/developing world-class training programs.

Clinical responsibilities will include a commitment to medical inpatient and consultation services (in-patient and emergency departments) across the MUHC network, as well as to outpatient clinics in complex care including day hospital, rapid assessment clinics, and preoperative care.

Qualifications and Education requirements

Candidates must hold an MD degree and must have completed subspecialty training in General Internal Medicine;

Candidates must be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent), as well as be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec;

Clinician-Investigator applicants require further advanced training in research methods and expertise in the field of vascular health medicine.

Clinician-Teacher applicants require further advanced training in complex outpatient care (experience and expertise with day hospital, rapid access clinic, procedural skills [including point-of-care ultrasound] and/or digital health are considered an asset) and/or in quality improvement.

Clinician-Educator applicants require further advanced training in medical education and in complex outpatient care (experience and expertise with day hospital, rapid access clinic, procedural skills [including point-of-care ultrasound] and/or digital health are considered an asset) and/or in quality improvement.

Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire these language skills at the level needed to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
