Purpose:

Reporting to the Executive Director, Operations and Administration, the Associate Director, Student Services, is responsible for providing leadership and strategy for services that facilitate a positive student experience, through effective transition, retention, engagement, and student success. The Associate Director is accountable for admissions, advising, registrations, and all registrar functions on behalf of the School, Student Services (including Student Success), Career Services, and the management of staff associated with these areas, as well as the efficient, effective, and innovative delivery of non-academic student services. The Associate Director is a key member of the Operations and Administration's management team and participates in and manages the development of the Student Services strategic and operational plans and leads regular check point meetings of the Student Services team. This role is responsible for the significant strategic and transformational activities in their area as well as the operational effectiveness of Student Services.

Education:
A university degree in a relevant area is required: a Business Administration-related, or ESL-related, degree. Professional training in business administration and organizational methods.

Experience:
7+ years' experience in leading a student registration team, student/member experience, and/or a program-related team, preferably in the higher education sector. Experience of management in a unionized environment. Familiarity with up-to-date policies and procedures focused on customer service within a multicultural environment would be an advantage. Proven expertise working with database systems.

Critical attention to detail, demonstrated skill in report writing, proven ability to identify and analyze problems as well as develop and implement solutions, independent decision-making, effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills. well-developed abilities conflict resolution and in selecting, mentoring, and supervising staff.
Good understanding of data usage and management and demonstrated experience in using technology to improve operational efficiency.
Team-based, inclusive work environment and collaborative, consultative approach.
Knowledge of the domestic organizations that act as 'feeders/recruiters' to YUELI and CPE programs.
Knowledgeable of all York University human resource related policies and practices
Knowledge of related collective agreement(s) and applying them appropriately in all situations related to managing staff.

Additional Notes:
There are no unusual physical or environmental demands while at York.

This position will require significant evening and weekend work as well as occasional domestic/international travel, as needed.

This position supervises other employees and makes recommendations that effect those supervised, such as hiring, firing, promotion, and/or discipline. This position has responsibility for management action under collective agreements (e.g., notice of job closure, grievances, performance issues, etc.).This position is responsible for the formulation of policy objectives and makes effective policy recommendations related to the development of administrative and academic programs, including recommendations that would impact on the staffing complement.

  • Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York's CPM Compensation Program.
