Vermeuland Farms Ltd. is searching for a Calf and Heifer Specialist to join their hard-working team and successful family business as they continue to grow and expand their farming operations.
About our Farms
In 1986, Vermeuland Farms was started by the Vermeulen family upon their immigration from the Netherlands to Nova Scotia. Over the years, and the next two generations, the original farm (Vinegar Hill) has expanded to from a one location 15 cow farm, to a now multi-location 650 cow farm with 20 full-time employees. Although the generations have changed, the Vermeulen’s have maintained their core values of hard work, integrity and having fun.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the general manager, the Calf and Heifer Specialist will be responsible completely for the calf barn and the transition cow barn.
- Starting at 5:00AM, this person will be responsible for feeding the calves twice, once at 6AM and once at 12:30PM.
- Responsible for identifying and marking fresh cows, but NOT responsible for milking fresh cows.
- Feeding colostrum, tagging calves, moving calves to calf barn with skid steer.
- Responsible for genomic samples of calves, organization, vaccination
- Responsible for setting up new pens
- Keeping calves clean and dry
