Seeking Cardiac Anesthesiologist for Locum & Permanent positions

Signing Bonus $100,000

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The New Brunswick Heart Centre (NBHC - ) and the Department of Medicine, affiliated with

Dalhousie University New Brunswick Medical School, is looking for a Cardiac Anesthesiologist to join our team. The NBHC is

located at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. The NBHC is the sole tertiary cardiac care program in the Province of New Brunswick. It serves the Province of New Brunswick for advanced cardiac care (population of 780 thousand), is the only cardiac catheterization and cardiac surgical center in New Brunswick performing over 4000 cardiac caths and more than 900 surgical interventions yearly. In addition, electrophysiologists perform over 900 device and electrophysiology studies per year. As such the NBHC includes more than 25 physicians, from various subspecialties, who work and function as a well-established and collaborative “Heart Team” that strives to provide modern clinical care to

address valvular heart disease, ischemic heart disease, aortic conditions, and heart failure.

Our practice offers excellent case volume and variety within a growing and innovative program that is noted for its warm and collegial environment. Cases (about 900 per year} include standard revascularization, valve and aortic procedures, transcatheter aortic valve replacements, and MitraClip procedures. Applicants should also be prepared to cover diverse general OR duties, including obstetric and simple pediatric cases.

Academic cross appointment at both Dalhousie University and/or Memorial University are valued and part of ensuring

The hospital is also home to a thriving ambulatory Surgical Centre, a comprehensive Breast Health Program, women's health services, various medical and surgical clinics, diagnostic/ therapeutic services, an Urgent Care Centre and the New Brunswick Eye and Tissue Bank.

JOB DUTIES:
The listed responsibilities can be referenced below. Additional duties may be assigned, by the Medical Director of the NBHC, the Chief of Medicine, Chief of Staff, or Head of the Department of Anesthesia, as may be operationally required by the NBHC and Horizon Health Network:

Provide comprehensive anesthesia services to both cardiac and noncardiac patients

Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority's mission, values and strategic

directions.

Cardiac anesthesia duties are split amongst a division of approximately 5 full-time cardiac

anesthesiologists. There are 2 cardiac surgery rooms running daily. On days when not

scheduled in a cardiac surgery room, a successful candidate would be assigned to a

noncardiac anesthesia list. There is a robust TAVI program which we provide anesthetic

services for. In addition, we often provide anesthetic services to the electrophysiology

lab, as well as to a small CHIP and structural heart program.

The Division of Cardiac Anesthesia is part of a greater Department of Anesthesia comprised of 20 anesthesiologists. There is an expectation to participate in the noncardiac call schedule, which consists of one 16 hour overnight call at a frequency of 1-in-16.

REMUNERATION (range $500,000-600,000/year):
Standard remuneration is Fee-for-Service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. On-call remuneration is provided. No source deductions can be provided.

INCENTIVES:

Candidates may be eligible for a Provincial Recruitment Incentive with a Return of Service Agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A medical degree is required.

Certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) as a Specialist in Anesthesia

Fellowship trained in Cardiac Anesthesia and transesophageal echocardiography.

Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.

Proficiency in English is required.

Good attendance and work record.

Physically able to perform assigned duties.
