We currently have a Regular Full-time opportunity for a Charge Technologist in the Molecular Diagnostics department at our Bayview campus.
Hours of Work:
Days; 8hrs; On-call Required; As per schedule
Summary of Duties
The Charge Technologist:
leads the coordination of activities across multiple areas to facilitate a smooth, integrated, and efficient workflow
works with the Manager, Supervisor, Medical/Scientific leads, QAO, and Technical Team, to actively promote and achieve the goals and objectives for Molecular Diagnostics
participates in establishing new policies, processes and procedures
cooperates with other lab divisions and/or individuals within and external to the hospital to
achieve common objectives and maintain a positive image of the laboratory and hospital
oversees the technical activities/projects of Molecular Diagnostics, providing expert technical input
creates/reviews protocols for test validation and implementation in Molecular Diagnostics
works closely with the Medical, Scientific and Technical staff to evaluate new technologies, equipment and methodologies in Molecular Diagnostics
works in collaboration with the Supervisor to develop and oversee shift rotation schedules for Molecular Diagnostics
oversees the orientation and training of staff in collaboration with the Senior and Supervisor
assists the Manager/Supervisor to with performance gaps
promotes a positive working climate to foster the development of team spirit and high morale
coordinates teaching programs and rotations for new employees, medical technologists and students within areas of responsibility in conjunction with the Supervisor and /or Manager
participates in the preparation and delivery of in-service education
other duties and responsibilities as required
Qualifications/Skills
MLT with training and advanced expertise in Molecular Diagnostics + minimum of five (5) years of
experience in an academic health science centre – required
undergraduate degree (3 yr minimum) - preferred
current licensing with CMLTO in Molecular Genetics (in good standing) – required
effective communication skills (written and verbal)
excellent problem recognition and solving skills
sound judgment and critical thinking
excellent computer skills
proven ability to work in a dynamic, busy environment with excellent time management and
organization skills (excellent prioritization skills)
proven ability to work as a team member or team leader
proven ability to work independently
