Job description

Chief Executive Officer
Halifax, NS

Giving extraordinary kids a chance to be ordinary.

Brigadoon Village is the largest pediatric medical camp facility in Canada and offers over 30 camp programs, each of which is designed to accommodate a health condition or other life challenge. Although Brigadoon has a long history comprised of growth and change, each new initiative is guided by the values and objectives that were established on day one. Through core values of sustainability, compassion, partnerships, empowerment, accountability, and innovation, Brigadoon continues to provide extraordinary kids with an amazing camp experience - one that all children should have a right to enjoy.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will lead the organization's vision of expanding and growing the Brigadoon experience throughout the rest of Atlantic Canada and beyond. Responsible for the overall management of the organization, including the implementation of the strategic vision, the CEO will bring executive leadership to engage and motivate internal and external stakeholders. The CEO will lead a dedicated and skilled management team by fostering a spirit of collaboration, respect and trust. With the support of committed staff and volunteers, the CEO will foster long term organizational growth to ensure the continued support of pediatric medical camp programs through partnership initiatives, operational efficiencies and fundraising excellence. As a champion for growth, the CEO will collaborate with the senior management team to lead change and innovation to identify new revenue opportunities.

As the ideal candidate, you have post-secondary education combined with at least ten years of related executive level (operations and strategic planning) experience in a not-for-profit organization. You have exceptional business acumen and a comprehensive understanding of the industry and marketplace. Experience in a camp operation setting or recreation therapy would be an asset. The successful candidate has an established ecosystem of community, business and executive relationships that align to Brigadoon's philanthropic strategy. A track record of effectively working with a volunteer Board of Directors. As a leader with experience motivating a talented management team, you have demonstrated effective organizational leadership while managing complex projects and corporate initiatives with multiple partners. Experience managing and monitoring the performance of an organization against strategic and annual targets is a must. Must love kids and fostering their success.

The successful candidate will be a results-oriented, entrepreneurial leader who is a driver of organizational and team performance. You have a focus on growth, collaboration, continuous improvement and innovation. A remarkable leader and communicator, you have the confidence, conviction and enthusiasm to inspire people to excel. Along with sound management and strategic abilities, you possess a high degree of empathy and the ability to effectively build mutually beneficial partnerships.

This is a unique opportunity to lead an organization that transforms the lives of children and youth by helping them reach their full potential through experiential learning, meaningful connections and exceptional fun. Interested candidates can submit their cover letter and resume to Ian Sullivan and Shardeigh McGillivray via [email protected]
