The Cooking Outreach Instructors will work primarily within core neighbourhoods to plan and deliver cooking classes and nutrition education for adults and youth. A secondary role will be to plan and deliver cooking instruction for 2 one-week long kid's camps taking place in July at the CHEP askiy urban ag site in Victoria Park. The individuals will also support the efforts of the urban ag program by utilizing local produce when available for cooking classes.
The individuals will be supported by CHEP staff including the Cooking/Kitchen Coordinator, Dietitian and Urban Agriculture Coordinator.
Roles and responsibilities associated with the position(s) include:
Plan and execute efficient, effective and safe ways to teach cooking skills, as well as possible ways to adjust class plan in the event of challenging or particularly low skill level students.
Goal setting of priority cooking skills to teach participants during each class/program.
Work as a team and independently to effectively manage time.
Design and incorporate fun, engaging activities alongside critical skill building for participants.
Class/Event Support and Education: Deliver cooking instruction by helping participants stay engaged and be on task and safe, supervising breaks, facilitating interactions that enhance culinary learning, and assisting with set up and clean up.
Customer service: ensure that the participants feel welcomed and comfortable in the space. Liaise with kid's camp parents/care-givers by greeting them at drop off and pick-up.
Facility Maintenance: maintaining a clean and tidy kitchen venue, completing logs, planning and maintaining supplies.
Administrative duties associated with planning events such as: calendar updates, document creation and coordinating details. Basic computer program proficiency required: i.e. Word, Email.
Manage social media updates.
Preferred Qualifications: First aid, Criminal Record Check, Food Safe Level 1, Serve it Right.
