Remote Work:
This position is eligible for remote work, within Calgary, under our mobile workforce program.
As WestJet's Coordinator, Media & Public Relations you are a critical resource to the airline's external communications team. You will work closely with the Manager, Media & PR and Advisor, Media & PR as the team strategically implements the airline's external communications through proactive and reactive communications strategies. This position will assist with the planning, delivery and constant organization of key deliverables including the airline's media monitoring and management, daily distribution of news and analytics reporting. This position also supports the greater team with the drafting of news releases, editorial content and updates for Newsroom. As a member of one of the busiest Media & Public Relations teams in the country, tasked with managing thousands of inquiries per year while supporting special events and strategic projects, this position requires flexible hours to ensure the delivery of critical information and to support unpredictable situations that may arise. This dynamic environment is balanced by working alongside a highly collaborative and accessible team Communications team that also includes WestJet's Internal Communications and Social Media teams. This is a one-year term (maternity leave) position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Media monitoring and daily delivery of media newsletter to key internal stakeholders
- Timely and proactive reporting and analytics on major events, proactive and reactive media strategies
- Media list and inquiry management
- Drafting of media statements, news releases and newsroom updates
- Creative storytelling and editorial support for WestJet's Newsroom and external channels
- Internal stakeholder amplification of external news and updates
Professional Experience & Qualifications:
- A combination of 1-3 years of experience in public and media relations or communications
- Understanding of Canada's media landscape and experience communicating with, and pitching story ideas to reporters and news outlets would be an asset
- Familiarity working with Meltwater's media monitoring platform or similar media software
- Experience writing and drafting news content and updates for social media channels specifically, Twitter and LinkedIn
- Experience drafting news releases and statements
- Constant awareness of current media trends on a national and global scale
- Superior organization and planning skills
- Demonstrated experience working on deadlines and tight timelines
- Experience with graphic design, photography and video always considered an asset
- French language capabilities always considered an asset
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree, with a focus in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism is required
