COURT PROCESS CLERK

LEGAL SERVICES

This position will be responsible for filing documents at the courthouse and providing clerical assistance to legal services. Court Proces Clerks are located at Legal Services, 30 Isabella Street, with assignment to branch location, as required.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide clerical assistance in legal services, including making copies of court documents, assembling Continuing Records, serving documents by fax, preparing affidavits of service and maintaining legal files.

2. Enter data from information provided onto legal forms for review by law clerk and/ or lawyer.

3. Enters information into court calendar as directed.

4. Attends court to file documents and have applications issued.

5. Acts in accordance with and incorporates Society's Code of Ethics, Confidentiality, Anti-Oppression/Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination policies, etc.

6. Uses sound judgment in consideration of financial resources.

7. Complies with Society’s financial policies and procedures.

8. Other duties as requested and required.

9. Works in a safe manner in accordance with the Society’s health and safety policies and procedures and all relevant legislation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Secondary school diploma and a minimum of 1 year relevant experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Minimum keyboarding speed of 45 wpm.
  • Proven ability in using computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office, CPIN).
  • Proven ability to effectively balance competing work demands and work under pressure.
  • Excellent telephone manner.
  • Proven ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work co-operatively with other staff and clients.
