Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This business development position must generate new business by directing sales into SGS.
This position is primarily focused on the integration of the full suite of SGS Natural Resources Minerals services portfolio for the North American (NAM) sales and business development team. The position will also support the global team for international sales opportunities across the global SGS network. Support the business units alignment (Geochem, Trade and Metallurgy and Consulting). Such efforts will be conducted in coordination with the local various sales and business development teams and will aim to communicate to the Metallurgy and Consulting technical and strategic advantages of SGS.

The Sales & BD Director will be required to:
  • Liaise with the Director of Operations of the business unit portfolio assigned to guarantee the sales activities are driven concurrently with existing and new techniques, sites operational capacity, and strategic geographic location.
  • Lead the NAM sales and business development effort for the business unit portfolio assigned. Follow and being aligned with local Business Strategy and defined by NAM Management Team.
  • Support recruit, manage, develop, and evaluate the sales and business development staff for the NAM sales team business unit assigned.
  • Plan, implement and direct the sales activities and business development for the business unit portfolio assigned and NAM Sales Strategy.
  • Liaise with the Operations Director and Business Unit Management Team to ensure the unit can develop and execute New business and expand the business unit portfolio assigned.
  • Customer care and retention
  • Business development planning including metrics and quarterly reviews
  • Management and market research
  • Provide input on sales initiatives in cooperation with the SGS Natural Resources Management team with the focus on new and emerging opportunities in the mining and minerals sector.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Drives the sales, business development and marketing function of NR MIN North America to achieve revenue and growth targets.
  • Liaise with the NAM KAM and Global NR leadership, to create and implement sector focused go-to market strategies, including Regional / National Accounts and a Regional / National Sales Team Structure.
  • Partnering with the VP NR Min Sales NAM, and NAM NAM Senior Director of Operations of the Business Unit Assigned to develop strategic sales plans, and sets qualitative and quantitative sales targets which will meet the Company's budget and growth objectives.
  • Partner with the VP NR Min Sales NAM, NAM NAM Senior Director of Operations and the Finance Business Controller of the Business Unit Assigned Directs to establish, prepare, and measure success, of sales forecasting, pricing activities, regional business development initiatives and key performance indicators for the sales team.
  • Leads the effort to work with customers and colleagues to proactively develop new products within the scope of the Business Unit Assigned and brings them to market.
  • Recruits, trains, and develops Business development Executives and other members of the Sales Team in line with agreed resource plans and objectives.
  • Provides leadership, direction, training, development and mentoring to the Business development.
  • Liaise with the Marketing Team to discuss, prepare and ensure the campaigns, conferences, and other programmed events return profits and are timely evaluated.
  • Works with operations to establish effective customer relations and retention mechanisms (renewals, etc.).
  • Oversees the identification and implementation of marketing activities (advertising, shows, mailings etc.) in support of the sales objectives and in line with the Company's strategy.
  • Identifies and disseminates best practices amongst the Business development and Marketing Team.
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

PROFILE
  • Master's degree in an Engineering related program; Metallurgical, Process, Chemical or Mining Engineering
  • 10+ years of technical experience in a metallurgical and consulting related profession.;
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience leading a team
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Expert working knowledge of mining life cycle focusing on precious metals, base metals and critical minerals
  • Experience in developing and building sales teams that have a proven track record of achieving revenue goals
  • Previous sales and business development experience is an asset with an understanding of the sales cycle and project development phases
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with client focus
  • Competitive and profit driven;
  • Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management
  • Knowledge of structuring sales quota goals and revenue expectations
  • Team player with a self-starter attitude
  • Highly developed sales and account management skills
