Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey's Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes. Our operations in Voisey's Bay are located in Northern Labrador, NL and our Long Harbour operation are located at 1 Nickel Road, Long Harbour, NL.

The Opportunity

Vale recognizes the Impacts and Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation and the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu and Inuit workers have first preference for employment at the Voisey's Bay Mine Site. This is guided by an adjacency principle that first gives preference to those who live on the coast of Labrador, followed by those residing in the rest of Labrador, those residing on the island of the province, followed by the rest of Canada.

Next, priority will be given to Newfoundland and Labrador residents. We also welcome those who are willing to relocate back home and those looking to make NL their permanent home.

We are currently seeking an Engineering & Reliability Manager (TEER 20010) to join our Newfoundland & Labrador Team. This is a full-time permanent position and there is one (1) vacancy.

This position will be on a Monday to Friday schedule working primarily from the St. John's, NL office with regular visits to the Voisey's Bay mine site and Long Harbour processing plant as required.

As an Engineering & Reliability Manager, you will provide leadership for the operations in the definition, development, and improvement of Engineering & Reliability performance so that the VNL operations can achieve world-class performance while meeting business goals. You will also be responsible to consolidate all of the regulatory standards for Engineering, and Reliability across VNL, engage and influence the leadership teams across Newfoundland & Labrador in the leadership of Engineering & Reliability and develop, build, and integrate systems and define appropriate use of technology within the existing business model to build capability of Engineering & Reliability for future performance in the operations. Lastly, you will develop relationships with site maintenance leadership teams, to ensure meeting Vale Base Metals Maintenance standards.

Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • Develop, build, and integrate systems and define appropriate use of technology within the existing business model to build capability of Engineering & Reliability for future performance in the operations.
  • Consolidate all the regulatory standards for Engineering, and Reliability across Vale Newfoundland & Labrador.
  • Develop relationships with site maintenance leadership teams, to ensure meeting Vale Base metals maintenance standards.
  • Work cooperatively across plants, to ensure variation control techniques are applied.
  • Monitor and control costs within the area of control. Review and adjust budgets as necessary.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for personnel to analyze trends and root causes to improve process equipment reliability.

About You

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer Designation (P.Eng) is considered an asset. (Should have ability to obtain P.Eng certification).

Experience:

  • Ten years' experience, including five years of managerial experience in a role supporting operations within the mining industry.
  • Balanced functional knowledge in mining, metallurgy, or chemical processes.
  • Experience with fly in, fly-out operations is essential.
  • Experience with project ramp up and equipment design is essential.

Skills:

  • Leadership and people management abilities (mentoring, managing influencing others).
  • Business Management Skills (resource, planning & work prioritization management, results focused, finance & budgeting knowledge).
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills.
