As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination to the Hospital's Occupational Health and Safety department.
- Baccalaureate in Nursing
- Master's Degree in Nursing (preferred)
- Current registration, and in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Previous experience as Clinical Instructor or placement supervisor preferred
- Extensive clinical experience as a Registered Nurse which would provide proficiency in all aspects of nursing scope of practice, working with unregulated health care workers, effective teaching/learning of adults, and provision of patient care.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching, working with learners or precepting
- Demonstrated strong clinical skills and competencies that will support the growth of the Extern and SPEP programs
- Demonstrated excellence in effective communication and interpersonal skills within a professional environment and ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and within a team
- Demonstrated leadership, change management and problem solving
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
- Computer skills in a Windows environment including Outlook, Microsoft Office and Cerner Millennium
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- As part of the Nursing Professional Practice Department, the Extern Coordinator is responsible for the successful implementation of the Clinical Extern Program and Supervised Practice Experience Partnership (SPEP) program for Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN) across multiple units of the hospital, by supporting Clinical Preceptors and program participants in their practice and integration into their unit in accordance with Nursing and Allied Health professional standards, CKHA policies, and in collaboration with the clinical teams
- Reporting to the Manager of Professional Practice, the incumbent provides supervision to the Clinical Preceptors and supports with hiring, onboarding, professional development, coaching, mentoring and managing performance as required
- Working with clinical stakeholders to coordinate and provide ongoing support to the Extern Program, including planning schedules, education, and integration of Externs
- Providing administrative and operational support in addition to coordinating of efficient daily operations of the Clinical Extern and SPEP programs at CKHA
- Supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of special projects within the Extern and SPEP Programs and the Professional Practice Department
- Serves as a liaison and conduit between the MOH, clinical leaders, educational organizations and Extern/SPEP participants
- Promotes and communicates safety objectives; takes remedial action to solve safety issues with a focus on hazard and risk elimination in support of prevention
