Full job description
As part of the Environmental Services Department, the successful candidate will provide a clean, safe and supportive environment for patients, visitors and staff in the Hospital and satellite areas, including but not limited to in-patient and out-patient areas, Operating Room Theatres, Clinical and Research Laboratories, non-patient and common areas by:

Providing daily and periodic cleaning services to routine and isolation rooms and corridors within their assigned Units/Areas including waste and sharps collection, cleaning of washrooms and shower rooms, cleaning room furnishings, fixtures and telephones, dusting shelves, sills, ledges, lights and vents, mopping, and bed, stretcher, and clinical-equipment, cleaning activities.
Collection of hazardous waste including: Biological, Chemical and Radioactive
Groundskeeping & snow removal/shoveling
Delivery and stocking of supplies
Waste Attendant responsibilities including collecting and compacting large bags of waste
Room /furniture set-up & breakdown
Powerwashing of sidewalks, windows & parking garage
Buffing, stripping, sealing and waxing floors;
Vacuuming and steam /extraction cleaning of carpets.Distributing and collecting meal trays to and from patient rooms as needed.
Distributing and collecting ice water jugs.
Distributing snacks/nourishments to unit.
Distributing and collecting menus.
Replenishing of supplies and clean-linens, and collect soiled linens as needed.
Removing and hanging-up of curtains utilizing a step-stool or ladder.
Assisting with moving patients within the Unit/Area as directed.
Helping to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment by observing fire & safety and infection control procedures, and by alerting the Clinical Leader/Manager and/or R.N. in charge to unauthorized persons in the unit.
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working as a cleaner in a healthcare or hospitality setting.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including bending, twisting, crouching, kneeling, climbing, grasping, reaching, lifting, pulling/pushing, continuous walking/standing.
Must be able to exert physical effort in lifting up to 75 lbs, pushing carts up to 300 lbs
Ability and willingness to operate scrubbers, bugger and autoscrubber and snow plow.
Food Handler certification an asset.
Completion of a Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training an asset.
Knowledge of cleaning products and their uses.
Knowledge of WHMIS.
Knowledge of various waste-streams in a healthcare environment.
Ability to read, write, comprehend and speak English.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to effectively communicate and a good work attitude to be a productive member of a team and communicate with patients, customers, and staff.
Ability to function as a departmental and unit team member.
Ability to work independently within the scope of the role and prioritize workload and perform assigned tasks within a specified period of time.

Shift: Sunday to Thursday 23:00 - 07:00
