Job Summary

The Family Peer Support worker participates as a member of the Foundry team. The Family Peer Support Worker utilizes their own lived experience of supporting a youth or young adult who has experienced mental health or substance use challenges in the provision of peer-based mentoring. This position assists in the delivery of Foundry services and offers family and caregivers service navigation and resource information while providing individualized support. The Family Peer Support worker promotes family participation in services by fostering the development of respectful, collaborative relationships with families, youth and service providers. We are looking for a parent or caregiver who has own lived experience supporting youth and young adults not a person who has supported them as a staff member.

NOTE: In your application, please include a cover letter describing what interests you about the position and how your own lived experience fits with the role.

Your Role:

Archway's Family Peer Support Worker with the Foundry Abbotsford contributes by:
  • Providing direct on-site or phone services to families and caregivers including providing support, guidance and mentorship.
  • Supporting and engaging families and caregivers as partners, assisting in developing wellness goals.
  • Supporting families and caregivers in accessing information, navigating Foundry services, accessing resources and developing skills.
  • Modelling hope and sharing living/lived experiences and lessons learned to support caregivers in achieving individual and family health and wellness goals.
  • Working collaboratively as an advocate and liaison between caregiver/family member, youth, Foundry staff and community partners.
  • Facilitating peer support and educational groups to promote skill development, engagement and foster peer-peer connection and networking opportunities.
  • Facilitating the engagement and participation of families (i.e., parents, caregivers, siblings, youth) in focus groups, surveys, and research and evaluation activities related to peer support.
This position is a great fit for someone who is able to use their own lived experience to further healthy, positive interactions with families and caregivers, and has a high degree of self awareness to apply appropriate boundaries. The hours might expand if additional funding is secured.

Our Offer
  • Wage: $21 per hour
  • A part-time, permanent position at 7 hours per week, some evening work will be required, hours worked will be determined in collaboration with successful candidate.
  • Build your experience in providing family peer support.

Getting an Interview-you will be considered if you have:

  • One year experience as a parent/caregiver navigating local community services for youth or young adults with mental health and/or substance abuse issues.
  • Included a cover letter with your application describing what interests you about the position and how your own lived experience fits with the role.
