Job Title:FASD Key Worker

Reports To:Operations Manager

Non- Union

Job Purpose
Maintain and enhance the stability of families with children and youth with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and other complex developmental disorders in order to improve the children’s long-term outcomes. Increase the knowledge of parents and professionals about developmental-behavioural conditions such as FASD. Ensure that families of children with FASD and other complex behavioural conditions have an ongoing network of support.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop or contribute to the assessment and planning of services (Integrated Case

Management Plan, etc.) to identify client’s personal issues and individual choices for the protection, care, and treatment of their children.

2. Provide family with support, education and brief counselling as needed. Assist families in navigating the services for FASD and other complex developmental disorders.

3. Monitor the progress of care plan and collaborate with client to improve its effectiveness through regular evaluations. All progress is reviewed with clients and other team members where appropriate according to an established schedule.

4. Establish and maintain safe, developmentally appropriate, healthy environments for children, young people, and their families. That is, introduce clients to positive recreational and social activities and appropriate community resources and develop routines and activities that are safe, enjoyable, and stimulating.

5. Adhere to and implement Child Development Centre quality assurance policies, which ensure the health, safety and security of clients and staff.

6. Promote relationships of trust and co-operation with clients, respect cultural values and beliefs, maintain professional boundaries and educate clients on the availability of complaint resolution procedures at the Child Development Centre.

7. Advocate for services and policies that meet the needs of children, young people, and their families by encouraging client access and participation in various community social service agencies. Increase parent and professionals’ knowledge of the neurological nature of FASD and other complex developmental disorders.

8. Maintain necessary client and program reports and statistics to ensure all required documentation is accurate and complete.

9. Engage in ongoing personal and professional development to respond to current and future needs of clients including a self-assessment of training needs and developing a well- documented plan to facilitate career growth and learning. Attend out of town Key Worker training and meetings.

10. Contribute to the effectiveness of integrated case management teams including participating in team building initiatives, recognizing opportunities for team building, acknowledging team success and failures, and promoting multidisciplinary practice within the team.

11. Establish and maintain working relationships with other community social service agencies in Williams Lake and British Columbia.

Qualifications
A degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, or Behavioral Science. Excellent knowledge of/and experience with FASD. Knowledge of or experience with Integrated Case Management.
Must possess and maintain a valid BC driver’s license. Good written and verbal communication skills, good computer skills. Ability to communicate and collaborate with parents, community members and professionals

Must be fully vaccinated

Working Conditions
The ability to function independently and frequently under pressure while managing concurrent issues is an ongoing expectation of this position. May be required to work outside normal working hours and the Child Development Centre confines. A moderate physical fitness level is a requirement to allow for some walking, lifting, and kneeling. May be required to give testimony in court under the Child, Family and Community Service Act in regard to their observations on and interventions with the client.
