MAINTENANCE WORKER
SOUTHLAKE RESIDENTIAL CARE VILLAGE
Candidates are invited to apply for the position of Full Time, Maintenance Worker in our 224-bed Long Term
Care Facility located in Newmarket, Ontario. Position may involve a variety of shifts including days, evenings, weekends and Public Holidays and will include on-call.
Reporting to the Environmental Manager, the Maintenance Worker has the overall responsibility for the general and preventative maintenance programs for the Home. Follows established policies, procedures and standards to ensure Residents’ safety in the Home.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Ensure the overall Health and Safety of Residents and Employees through safety rules and regulations as outlined in the Heath & Safety Manual and any other applicable legislation
- Ensure the Preventative Maintenance program is being followed and the building is in good repair and kept free of hazards.
- Maintain the building in compliance with Federal, Provincial and Local Regulations and inspect building on a regular basis
- Maintain the Fire Alarm System and the Emergency Generator System and ensure they are in working order. Perform tests on Fire Alarm and Generator Systems and document findings
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on resident or facility owned equipment including lighting, heating, air conditioning, plumbing fixtures, water temperature
- Maintain adequate ventilation throughout the building. Ensure that windows and screens are provided and secured in all resident areas
- Provide small scale remodeling and carpentry when required
- Maintain the exterior grounds, ensures cleaning and trash removal from outside receptacles
- If outside contractors are used, ensure they are properly supervised and that any work they perform is completed properly; Occasional winter maintenance required to maintain the safety of residents, families, and staff.
- Participate in and attend in-service education programs as required
- Monitor and provide necessary supplies to staff
- Review maintenance binders kept in all departments daily and ensure work is completed
- Set up and maintain the facility painting program to ensure all areas are kept in a good state
- Adheres to the company Standards of Conduct and Confidentiality of all Facility information
- Demonstrates record of good attendance and punctuality
- Other duties as assigned by Department Manager or designate
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-Secondary education required
- Three (3) or more years’ experience in maintenance.
- Mechanically inclined with demonstrated knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, H.V.A.C. system.
- Works effectively within a variety of stressful situations, challenges and frequent interruptions
- Must be committed to providing excellent customer service
- Superb organization, planning, time management and multi-tasking skills
