JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:

program includes orientation training in the Lower Mainland, annual GTT program conferences,
and long-term rotations/relocations throughout the province.
This is a four (4) year on-the-job training program where the successful candidate will be trained
to become a Design Technologist. Successful applicants will be expected to:
- be the main point of contact for customers wishing to obtain service from BC Hydro at
- manage a large workload of customer projects, of varying degrees of complexity, from initial
- conduct field studies,
- become competent in a number of different software programs related to the work of distribution
- design and prepare cost estimates for a variety of single and three phase overhead and/or
metered services for, industrial, commercial, and residential subdivisions, strata developments,
high-rises, asset relocations, extensions, and end-of-life replacements,
- liaise with and coordinate large scale/scope projects involving high profile and influential
- perform technical administrative duties, and
- prepare and administer associated work contracts.
Through the four (4) year GTT Program, the successful applicant will progress from low
complexity and high volume projects, to high complexity and low volume. The high volume, low
complexity projects will develop customer communication and project management skills. During
this program the successful applicant will develop knowledge of:
- The distribution network system-BC Hydro's single and three phase overhead and underground
- BC Hydro's civil underground standards
- Primary and secondary metering standards for residential, commercial and industrial services
- BC Hydro's Distribution Instructions
- Distribution Analysis & Design, Gateway, Passport, and SAP IT systems
- Tariffs and electrical code related to overhead and underground distribution construction
- BC Hydro's tendering and local work contracts
- BC Hydro's billing system and application processes
- Surveying
- Environmental considerations, impacts and regulations
- Reading legal and building plans
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications and attributes:
- A Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from a program nationally accredited by The

LOCATION Please note that the starting location for this position will be Fort St John.
RELOCATIONS Design GTTs will undergo up to three mandatory relocations during their four
year training program. Relocation locations are based on business needs and are in any part of
the province of BC (North or Southern Interior, Vancouver Island, and the Lower Mainland).
Candidates must therefore be willing and able to relocate to locations throughout the province for
periods of 1-2 years.

Flexible work model role definitions
===========================
Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home
based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for
each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time
from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.
IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
