ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Methanex is currently seeking an Instrument Technicianto join the team in Medicine Hat, AB on a full-time basis. This is a temporary position with an estimated end date of September 30, 2025.

The Instrument Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs instrumentation and control systems, including all electronic, digital, and pneumatic controls within the process area of the plant and across the site. The Instrument Technician also designs and consults on new installations, including the configuration, programming, and commissioning of new systems.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Troubleshoot and repair controls and instrumentation equipment when failures occur, such as valves, transmitters, switches, and DCS/PLC
  • Cooperates with Operations and other departments to determine causes of failures
  • Recommends system modifications and/or procedures to prevent future failures
  • Develops and performs predictive and preventive maintenance tasks
  • Maintains calibration records for all critical equipment
  • Researches and develops new predictive maintenance techniques
  • Assist the Technical department in developing designs for new and upgraded systems
  • Liaises between trades and contractors for installation of new systems
  • Commissions new installations and maintains commissioning records
  • Ensures employee and contractor compliance with Methanex policies, procedures, and applicable standards
  • Ensures alignment with annual Maintenance department and I/E Team plan
  • Effectively communicates current activities and policies
  • Ensures implementation of and compliance with all Methanex HR policies and procedures, including performance optimization
  • Oversees, coordinates, and works with contractors
  • Remains current with all safety and procedural training
  • Ensures compliance with all Pressure Equipment Integrity Management (PEIM) responsibilities, relative to role, as per the PEIM Manual
  • Contributes to the organizational vision of Global Methanol Leadership and as a team member demonstrates the core values of integrity, trust, respect, and professionalism
  • Conducts all business in a manner that supports the Responsible Care® ethic
  • Reviews existing procedures to ensure that they are applicable and current
  • Develops new procedures as required for new equipment or maintenance processes

ABOUT YOU

To qualify, you will need to be a Journeyperson Instrument Technician, with Red Seal certification preferred.

Additionally, the following assets would be preferred, but not required:

  • Instrumentation Technologist Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Journeyperson Electrical Technician certification is an asset
  • Experience and expertise with HART and other handheld digital communicators
  • Knowledge of ladder logic and function block PLC programming via ProWorx, Triconex and Unity software
  • Knowledge in Delta V DCS system
  • Skill with various specialized multimeters and test equipment
  • Experience with Valtek and Fisher valves
  • Experience with Fire and Gas Detection Systems
  • Experience with maintaining and calibrating various instrumentation such as Rosemount transmitters (pressure, temperature, and flow), Bailey CO/O2 analyzers, various PH and conductivity probes, etc.
  • Proficiency in reading PID, loop drawings, and data sheets
  • Knowledge of various software such as MAXIMO, AutoCAD, Autodesk, True View. and Fluke Flir Thermo graphic Imaging
  • Knowledge in ABB Chromatographs and process monitoring analyzers
  • Knowledge of infrared thermography
  • Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code
