BC Cancer (BCC) is committed to reducing the incidence of cancer, reducing the mortality from cancer, and improving the quality of life of those living with cancer. BC Cancer provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of British Columbia in partnership with regional health authorities to deliver a range of cancer services, which include prevention, screening and early detection, diagnosis and treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation and palliative care. It operates six regional cancer centres in Surrey, Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria, Abbotsford and Prince George, along with two research centres that conduct research into the causes and cures for cancer.


In this 0.2 FTE position, you will be accountable to the Senior Executive Director, Clinical Programs & Policy, and work closely with the program operations director to provide provincial leadership in the development and implementation of provincial clinical standards. This will be accomplished in partnership with BC Cancer leadership and the Ministry of Health, for designated cancer screening and clinical management pathways through a process of evidence review and stakeholder engagement. This engaging role ensures development of the quality assurance framework and processes consistent with best practices and a patient-focused approach, works with Screening Program staff to implement and assess quality initiatives, and, in consultation with appropriate expertise, reviews clinical practices and data, identifies areas for improvement, and determines corrective actions. You will be responsible for clinical performance review and support for the Program. You will provide clinical review, advice and input into the development of professional educational materials to promote clinical standards in cancer screening and clinical management to diagnosis, and deliver physician education on cancer screening topics. Promoting, fostering and participating in academic activities, including teaching and research related to cancer screening rounds out your mandate.


As a fully licensed physician, you meet the requirements of the provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons as well as those of Medical Advisory Committee of the BC Cancer Agency. Knowledge regarding population health and epidemiology is an asset, or is open to concurrent epidemiology training.


You have:

Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
