The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking an internal stakeholder engagement co-op student/intern for the Summer 2023 (May to August) work term.

The Internal Stakeholder Engagement Co-op/Intern will work within our Corporate & Investor Relations department. This is a great opportunity for you to learn and apply your knowledge to support the development and implementation of communications strategies, assist in the development of our corporate town halls and, and sharpen your writing skills to help tell the story of BCI.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
Internal stakeholder engagement (internal communications) is important for any corporation, especially one that’s growing in size or complexity – both of which are currently true for BCI. Our internal stakeholder engagement team works to instill a strong strategic, yet conversational narrative. They aim to present information in a compelling and succinct manner that informs, inspires, clarifies, recognizes, and delivers a shared understanding of BCI, building a sense of pride and commitment amongst staff. They produce strategic content in a variety of formats for BCI’s growing staff base – including written, audio, video, and visuals. The group’s primary focus is the corporation’s intranet, which has reference materials and daily news. They also lead annual, all-staff Town Hall events; provide internal communication strategies; communication counsel; and staff-facing publications.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
You will be provided with real work experience, integrated into the team, and will actively contribute to the team’s responsibilities, interacting with different members of the group. In some cases, you will be working on initiatives that support their responsibilities, in others you will be working alongside them. Ask questions and engage with team members; they will be able to share their experience and the lessons they have learned along the way.
Core Activities:
  • Process communication requests for the company’s intranet site. Write, edit, and publish compelling content (written, video, or podcast) for internal audiences for the corporate intranet – this includes liaising with subject-matter-experts, writing copy, coordinating approvals, creating corresponding visuals, and building digital content.
  • Build and send out The Weekly Roundup newsletter to employees
  • Contribute to the development and execution of our internal communication strategy; activities will be led by the results of the annual internal stakeholder engagement survey
  • Support the Digital Employee Experience Project that will include the transition to a new intranet and communication channels
  • Support data analytics of intranet engagement
  • Support the management of our visual and digital assets within our digital management system
  • Support the planning, development, and execution of corporate events such as corporate knowledge series and Town Halls; participate in weekly planning meetings, working with the group to establish the approach to the events, individual sessions, videos, and logistics; as well as assisting with the implementation on the day of
  • Provide document, image, and video editing for the internal stakeholder engagement team, as required
  • If needed, other initiatives may be assigned during the course of the co-op term, such as potentially supporting digital analytics, and contributing to communication on ESG (environmental, social, and governance) investing, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI), and technology
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Recognizes the value of continuous information exchange and the competitive advantage it brings
  • Has strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail
  • Is technologically savvy, with experience in Adobe Creative Suite being preferred
  • Has the creative ability to devise material that effectively communicates complex topics in a compelling way, as well as the journalistic instinct of sourcing stories
  • Has the ability to effectively manage projects in a deadline-driven environment, taking into consideration available resources and timeframes
  • Understands the importance of both written and visual communication elements
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively

THE DETAILS
  • Work term: Summer 2023 (May to August)
  • Department: Corporate & Investor Relations
  • Office Location: 750 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC
  • Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location
  • All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office. We are piloting a hybrid program whereby employees may work from home up to two days per week. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work
