Our dynamic team is looking for Linguistics & Localization Expert Interns who have a passion for language and culture. This role is perfect for those interested in adapting content to various cultural contexts, ensuring that translations are both linguistically accurate and culturally appropriate. About the term:

We have a scheduled placement for April 2024, and it can be either full time or part time but must be a minimum of 520 hours per placement. We allow flexibility to avoid any conflicts with academic responsibilities. Please be sure to outline your ideal placement date or term and any constraints you may have. This is an ideal post grad placement that will truly amplify and accelerate your post grad development. This is a full-time & part-time but strong engagement is critical. Full time is most desired and part time is possible with responsible flexibility. Placement timing can also be aligned with academic commitments and internship requirements outlined by your program.

What You'll Do:

• Assist in the development of Large Language Models and voice synthesis tools for a specific non-English language, ensuring the linguistic integrity and authenticity of the models
• Collect and analyze linguistic data pertinent to the target language. This involves sourcing, annotating, and validating large datasets to enhance the language models' accuracy and naturalness in voice synthesis
• Provide expert insights on the cultural and linguistic nuances of the target language, ensuring that the models capture idiomatic expressions, regional dialects, and culturally specific references accurately
• Develop localization strategies for adapting the language models and voice synthesis to specific regional contexts within the language group, focusing on cultural appropriateness and regional linguistic variations

About You:

• A Master's or higher degree in Linguistics, Translation Studies, Computational Linguistics, or a closely related field
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand and process language data, identify patterns, and solve complex linguistic challenges
• An innate understanding of cultural sensitivities and differences, and the ability to adapt content to various cultural contexts effectively
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex linguistic concepts to non-expert audiences, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
• Experience with specific localization software, knowledge in a particular area of linguistics such as phonetics, syntax, or semantics, or experience working in a multilingual environment

Duration and Compensation:

This is a full-time & part-time, paid internship with the following placement options:

1) Fall

2) Winter

3) Spring

4) Summer

Flexibility with timing and location should not deter you from applying. The compensation will be $32-35 CAD per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
