Job description

The Maintenance Houseperson will be responsible for performing general building and property maintenance. The Maintenance Houseperson shall also be responsible for keeping the building in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. They are required to perform routine deep cleaning tasks and light maintenance of the property, inside and outside the building.


Responsibilities:

  • Performs typical work such as changing lightbulbs, clearing drains, light furniture repair, pressure washing of the garage and exterior (including patio furniture), removing garbage, recycling, and organics, cleaning window and light fixtures, cleaning vents, sweeping and scrubbing storage and utility rooms, cleaning patios and balconies, and spot cleaning and shampooing carpeting, steaming floors. Changing filters in HVAC units along with light in house repairs
  • Maintain all work areas in a clean, orderly and safe manner and assure proper care in the use of tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Cooperate, communicate and assist other departments, along with Residents with tasks such tasks as transferring residents, moving and storing supplies, and moving furniture and equipment etc.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, safety, environment and infection control.
  • Perform outside work such as removing any fallen garbage on the grounds of our property, gardening, cutting grass, and when necessary, removing snow and sanding or salting as required.
  • Comply with Health and Safety and WHMIS requirements for Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Ensure the privacy of residents while performing duties.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Housekeeper

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Great customer service skills and professionalism.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and in emergency situations.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both as a team and independently.
  • Proven decision-maker and analytical thinker.
  • Previous experience working with seniors or in a retirement residence is definitely an asset.
  • Must be Knowledgeable with computers, Microsoft Word, and using the program Maintenance Care
  • Must have a flexible schedule, including working earlier, later, and on weekends when needed

Physical Demands:

  • Considerable lifting, stretching, reaching, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, standing, walking and bending.
  • Lifting alone, maximum of 40 lbs (5-25 lbs usual). Lifting with assistance, maximum 160 lbs (100-120 lbs usual).
  • Pushing/pulling, using wheeled equipment such as carts, trolleys, maximum 100 lbs (20-50 lbs usual).
  • Ability to use industrial shampoo machine/steamer
  • Walking, with the possibility of some upstairs walking, up to 3 hours maximum (1-2 hours usual).
  • Standing for lengths of time, up to 3 hours maximum (1-2 hours usual) as an essential job function.
  • Carry and transport objects of various sizes, to a maximum of 25 lbs (5-15 lbs usual).

Working Condition:

  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays - no exceptions.
