The team:

As the network administrator team lead, you will be part of the IT Infrastructure team working with talented IT Support and Security teams to deliver projects and support that will help Genetec to continue its growth. You will be directly involved in critical projects and tasks supporting our internal services and production infrastructure. Genetec’s network team supports over 2000 users worldwide with multiple global offices: our campus, data centers, and our cloud environments.

Collaborating with a team of skilled network administrators, you will be responsible for the day-to-day activities of your team – including the organization and allocation of work.

The Network Administrators are responsible for continuous network improvements in all aspects of network operation, with a strong emphasis on network security, performance, and availability. Day to day tasks will include support and maintenance on existing network devices such as Palo Alto firewalls and Cisco routers and switches across all sites. The team is also working on various projects, including the build-out of new offices, WAN/LAN improvements and telephony management. Finally, assisting other IT teams such as the helpdesk Team with troubleshooting and resolving escalated issues.

Being a hands-on network team lead you will implement with a “security first” mindset and assist your team by working on tasks and projects next to them. In addition, you will manage the people and develop the team’s efficiency using the Kanban work management principles.

What your day will look like:

  • Responsible for the overall efficiency of the team.
  • Daily team responsibilities include management of Kanban board and related work as well as the ticket queue
  • Leading process related discussions and ensuring that the teams' process related objectives are met.
  • Responsible for product quality as it applies to the components under the team's responsibility.
  • Serve as the point of contact for the team for any work-related escalations
  • Answer network infrastructure related questions coming from outside the team.
  • Contribute to the network management activities: change management, incident management and escalations.
  • Help customers by resolving networking issues.
  • Participate with network troubleshooting, and architecture/topology design and implementation.
  • Lead in the implementation of many new and fast-moving network technologies
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation and diagrams of network infrastructure.
  • Work with customers to gather IT requirements.
  • Participate in non-business hours network related activities.
  • On-call 24/7 Support as per defined scheduled.
  • Operate within the guidance of the IT delivery framework.

About you:

  • Proven work experience as a team leader or supervisor (evaluations, interviews, mentorship etc.)
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Can make decisions by being analytical, collaborative, and showing leadership
  • Strong organizational skills to give team direction
  • Experience analyzing company needs, employee development and goal setting
  • Excellent understanding of core networking design principles
  • Strong knowledge of security best practices for all aspects of the network, including management, monitoring, and control.
  • Familiarity working in a hosted data center environment as well as cloud environments (ex: Microsoft Azure and subscriptions).

Technical Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of core networking design principles.
  • Strong understanding of network security design principles ex: Zero Trust.
  • Strong understanding of Layer 4 – Layer 7 firewall technologies and cloud firewalls.
  • Good knowledge and experience working with LAN/WAN/MAN & VPN technologies (SSL, IPSEC, SDWAN, MPLS, EPL, dark fibre, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of switching and routing protocols including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, STP, VTP, VLAN.
  • Familiarity working in a hosted data centre environment as well as cloud environments (ex: Microsoft Azure and subscriptions).
  • Must be familiar with cabling principals within telecom closets and on telecom racks.

Great if you have:

  • Certifications in progress or completed (ex: CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, PCNSE, CCSA)
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable and secure corporate networks. Includes wireless technologies, and VoIP.
  • Experience managing Palo Alto firewalls and Cisco switches.
  • Scripting experience (ex: bash, python, PowerShell).
  • Multicast, IPv6, and NAC experience.
  • Understanding of Kanban work management principles.
