Purpose
The Power Market Analyst role is within the Market Analytics group and will work closely with the trading team in the maintenance and execution of proprietary tools that enable decision-quality analysis and reporting within Energy Services and Algonquin.  The successful candidate has knowledge of North American Power Markets with some knowledge of analytical approaches and understanding of fundamental data manipulation techniques. The main responsibility of this candidate will be to provide reporting and analysis and to support hedging and risk management activities
Accountabilities
-Implement, as directed by the trade group and with the support of ES team, models to monitor and evaluate risk metrics on portfolio of assets.
-Monitor and gather key industry intelligence, identify trends and communicate to relevant stakeholders.
-Perform standard reoccurring tasks for the trading team such as: supplying forward pricing to plant managers, asset strategy, customers or business development.
-Publish and maintain existing executive reports.
-Perform the distribution and data validation of reports (daily, weekly and monthly).
-Run and improve tools and queries as needed to obtain wholesale power market data.
-Execute and support database monitoring and data validation tasks.
Education and Experience
-Broad Job Knowledge - Broader knowledge of theory and principles within a professional discipline or advanced knowledge of specific technical/operational practices
-Working toward the completion of Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science.
-Knowledge of programming languages including R, Python & SQL is strongly preferred.
-Successful candidate must have basic knowledge of energy markets, products and trading instruments such as swaps, options, futures.
-Work experience in the deregulated energy markets or trading floor experience in the energy field is preferred. 
-Experience analyzing market fundamental drivers in ERCOT, PJM, MISO, CAISO, AESO is an asset.
-Candidate must have advanced spreadsheet skills and strong modelling aptitude.
