The Department of Bioengineering at McGill University Faculty of Engineering invites applications for the Furino Chair in Bioengineering. The position is at the Full Professor level, for outstanding senior candidates.
Established in 2022, the Salvatore Furino Chair in Biomolecular, Cellular and Tissue Engineering allows the Faculty of Engineering to expand research and teaching in biomolecular, cellular, and tissue engineering, as well as biological information, serving as a catalyst to advance knowledge and enable innovation for vaccines and drugs, as well as to develop cancer prevention, treatment, and cure.
McGill University is a leading research-intensive academic institution in Canada, attracting over one-half billion dollars in competitive research funding each year. The Department is in a rapid growth phase, following the success of its undergraduate program in Bioengineering and commissioned considerable, new, integrated research facilities. The successful candidate will assist in this growth, while maintaining McGill’s international reputation of excellence in research and teaching.
We are seeking outstanding candidates whose research focuses on Biomolecular, Cellular, and Tissue Engineering, or Biological Information and Computational Bioengineering – preferably synergising both areas. Aside of these general areas of activity, the successful candidate will also have demonstrated knowledge and achievements in biomanufacturing and/or cancer research. The successful candidate will also have constituted evidence of effective teaching.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in any area of life sciences or engineering, with preference for a first degree in engineering. Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association is required.
The Department is committed to excellence in teaching and values service contributions of its Faculty members to the University, the profession, and society at large. Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to the mission of the University, demonstrated through outstanding activities in the areas of research, teaching, and service.
The position starting date is August 1, 2023.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Qualified applicants should submit a single application package which includes the following:
1) A curriculum vitae
2) A two-page statement outlining research and teaching goals
3) Copies of three recent publications
4) Names and contact information of at least 3 referees who will be asked to provide confidential reference letters shortly after the initial application submission
