Job Summary

The Scheduler plays a critical role in the successful delivery of client contracts for Fermar Paving Ltd. (“the Company”) through developing and managing the Master Schedule of Projects. The position identifies and manages opportunities and risks to achieve the best possible impact on Schedule and Financial targets.

The Scheduler, as Gatekeeper of the Master Schedule, is accountable for ensuring progress, updates, change orders, and resource allocations to multiple active projects are reviewed regularly and appropriate actions for changes are decided and implemented. The position is also accountable to review all contracts to ensure Company Projects are in conformance; and to manage claims, delays and initiate recovery as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership Oversight
  • Build, monitor, and maintain the Master Schedule of all Projects Company-wide.
  • Ensure all Projects meet approved plans, specifications, shop drawings, and applicable codes and standards.
Planning/Financial
  • Track and report on all financial aspects of Projects, including changes, forecasts, and progress billings.
  • On an annual basis, close the year’s Master Schedule and ensure active projects are carried over into the new Master Schedule.
  • Review cost loading on Projects to forecast cash flow.
  • Ensure appropriate resources are allocated as identified in Progress Meetings.
Operating
  • Review all active Projects to identify potential problems, conflicts, delays, claims and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Develop and communicate short term look-ahead schedules to alert management of upcoming work.
  • Schedule Progress Meetings (weekly/bi-weekly) with Operations management to review the Master Schedule and update all projects.
  • Ensure all changes agreed/decisions made in Progress Meetings (or at other times) are incorporated into the Master Schedule.
  • Provide Master Schedule updates/presentations monthly to Operations management, the Executive Committee (includes Director, PMO), and individual clients.
  • Actively champion all Health Safety and Environment programs.
Education and Experience
  • University Degree.
  • Minimum 5 years Scheduling within the Construction industry.
  • Highly skilled in using Primavera and MS Project software.
  • Experience in Hard Civil Sector preferred.
  • Eng. and/or PMP designation is an asset.
Demonstrated Management Skills
  • Working knowledge of Budgetary and Financial processes.
  • Critical thinking and risk mitigation.
  • Mentoring others.
  • Comfortable with creating and delivering effective presentations.
  • Setting goals/objectives and measuring performance.
  • Strong working knowledge of Project Management software.
Demonstrated Interpersonal (People) Skills
  • High level of personal stress management. Ability to retain focus while addressing challenges, and prioritize conflicting demands.
  • Problem Solving. Able to react quickly by knowing where to find resources/who to contact when issues arise.
  • Able to work independently as appropriate.
  • Able to effectively communicate applying sound judgement in an appropriately assertive manner.

Working Conditions

Travel Requirements

One or two times per week within GTA.

Physical Environment

80% office. 20% construction site visits.

Physical Demand

Most activities are of moderate physical intensity. Walking, sitting, lifting less than 5 lbs. occasionally. Consistent computer/laptop exposure.

Mental Effort

Moderate intensity. Occasional challenges that demand higher level focus.
