The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety is recruiting a Radiation Health Officer to promote and enforce compliance with The Saskatchewan Employment Act and The Radiation Health and Safety Regulations, 2005.
As a Radiation Health Officer, you will be responsible for planning and intelligence gathering on current and emerging radiation hazards. You will also be providing technical advice on complex radiological matters to a wide variety of persons and ensuring that radiation emitting devices throughout the province are in compliance with Part V of The Saskatchewan Employment Act and The Radiation Health and Safety Regulations, 2005. A Radiation Health Officer travels throughout the province to:
- Inspect radiation emitting devices;
- Educate and advise on radiation safety issues;
- Address complaints, investigate dangerous occurrences and support the legal unit in the investigation of serious injuries and fatalities;
- Investigate and determine the applicable standards where no definitive standards may exist; and
- Resolve disputes regarding radiation safety issues
Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be obtained through the completion of a degree in the Analytical Sciences, as well as 3 – 5 years of experience with radiation emitting devices and radioactive material. The ideal candidates will clearly demonstrate knowledge of radiation related hazards as well as knowledge of relevant regulations and standards.
