The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure's mission is to contribute to New Brunswick's economy and quality of life by providing and supporting sustainable infrastructure that allows for the safe and efficient movement of people, goods and government services to the public. Not only is the department responsible for managing over 18,000 kilometers of provincial highways, it also manages the planning, design and construction of hospitals, schools and other government buildings.

What you will do

Reporting to the Assistant Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • administrating the NB Short line Railways Act;
  • overseeing regulatory compliance for short line railways in New Brunswick;
  • ensuring compliance with federal rail legislation through interaction with Transport Canada and federally regulated railways operating in New Brunswick;
  • coordinating maintenance and upgrades of all rail grade-crossings on provincially designated highways;
  • ensuring compliance to rail safety regulations;
  • providing expertise in rail-related matters;
  • managing and overseeing the Public Transit file, including passenger rail (VIA Rail), intercity busing (Maritime Bus), and coordinating with relevant departments.

Work environment:

  • Office location: 440 King Street, Fredericton.
  • Open office layout.
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday.
  • We promote a scent-reduced environment.
  • Some travel within the province will be required.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Science or Engineering
  • a minimum of three (3) years of related experience in stakeholder engagement, policy development, administration, short line railways operation and rail subject matter expertise
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate the following asset:

  • experience working with policy, relevant legislation, and/or multi-modal transportation.

Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

SALARY:$1,910.00 to $2,669.00 bi-weekly, based on a 36.25 hours per week.
