Resource Specialist

Job Title: Community Resource Specialist
Job Location: Saint John, NB
Reports to: HDC Executive Director
Salary: $50,000 - $55,000 per annum
Start Date: On or before January 15, 2023
Status: Full time

The Human Development Council (HDC) understands the importance of connecting people to services. We are responsible for the collection, organization, and maintenance of information in the New Brunswick 211 database that is used by Information and Referral Specialists and the public via the public facing website - nb.211.ca. We are looking for a Resource Specialist to join our team.

The Opportunity
The Resource Specialist is responsible for tasks that maintain the integrity and quality of the information in the database. The successful applicant is an Information and Referral professional who brings best practices in the field to the HDC's team.

Responsibilities

  • A key function of this position is to maintain our Community Resource Database. This involves researching and consulting with community organizations, agencies, stakeholders, and governments to identify and gather suitable resources for inclusion in the database
  • Creating, entering, and updating records through Content Management Systems ensuring accuracy and accessibility, and according to recognized Information and Referral Standards
  • Responding quickly to partner and colleague requests for data exports and updates
  • Keeping current with trends and issues in the field of Information and Referral.
  • Ensuring professional development by attending trainings and keeping aware of updates in the non- profit sector
  • Other responsibilities as required to meet organizational goals

Qualifications

  • Strong communications skills (written, interpersonal, documentation, listening, and presenting)
  • Strong team player and solutions focused problem-solver
  • A minimum of 1-year experience editing, proofing, and data organizing
  • Experience with automated information systems
  • Excellent writing, editing, and research skills
  • Strong database management skills
  • Ability to work with speed, accuracy and consistency to support tight deadlines
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analytical skills; very detail oriented
  • Advanced computer skills (e.g. Microsoft applications, Internet research)
  • Good relationship building skills
  • Able to work independently, prioritize, and take initiative

Knowledge, Education and Certifications/Licences:

  • Degree in Library and Information Science or post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of community, social and human services field in New Brunswick
  • Understanding of information classification systems, taxonomy and style guides
  • Oral and written proficiency in French is an asset

Physical and Social Work Environment:
The Social Enterprise Hub is located at 139 Prince Edward St. It's not your standard workspace. It's a modern three-story building that hosts several non-profits and social enterprises who use the space to work collectively on social change in Saint John. The building has a wellness room, a shop full of local artists' work and the Stone Soup Café.

Salary and Benefits:
Full-Time positions consist of 37.5 hours per week.

This position provides a competitive salary, health benefits plan and RRSP contribution. Salary is commensurate with experience, in a range of $50-$55K per year.
