Fund Administration is responsible for the overall operations and administration of Fiera’s various fund structures. This includes a complex line-up of over 100 funds domiciled in Canada, the U.S, the UK and the Cayman Islands. The teams work closely with Fiera’s product development and distribution teams to define and manage the product offerings ensuring that service delivery, operational risk, operational readiness, regulatory compliance, profitability, and scale is achieved in each product.
Under the supervision of the Director, Fund Administration, the Senior Analyst will be part of a team focused on the NAV oversight, the funds taxation, the operational support, and the production of financial statements of funds advised by the firm. The successful candidate will work closely with third-party service providers and internal teams such as Performance Reporting, Operations, Client Service Support, Portfolio Managers, Legal and Compliance support data delivery and resolve accounting issues. In collaboration with members of their team, the role will participate in the implementation of continuous process improvement and business procedure initiatives. The position will be part of a dynamic global team with investment fund businesses in various jurisdictions that is striving to implement industry best practices and drive improvement across the organization. The candidate will work in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment whereby attention to detail (financial exposure), operational risk, and client focus are must-have traits.
Your responsibilities:
As part of his responsibilities, the Senior Analyst, NAV Oversight & Fund Taxation will be assigned the following duties:
NAV Oversight:
Oversee the calculation of the net asset value (NAV) and reporting of the Fiera funds
Interact with third-party service providers and various internal teams to resolve accounting issues
Manage relationship of third-party service providers to ensure execution of duties to the highest standard (Fund Administrators, Custodians, Auditors)
Liaise with internal Client Service team to facilitate investor requests
Prepare analyses and develop reporting, when needed, to support internal teams
Participate in the preparation of regulatory reporting involving financial information and assist with control assessments
Take a leadership role in refining and implementing new controls
Funds Taxation:
Maintain investment fund taxation policies and procedures; and monitor all fiscal controls related to the funds
Oversee the funds’ monthly, quarterly, and annual distribution calculations, and assess the need for special distribution
Coordinate and oversee the funds various tax returns and filings (e.g. T3, T5008, HST/QST/PST filings, foreign tax filings), and assist with the preparation of unitholders tax slips
Coordinate and complete various foreign withholding tax documents on behalf of the Fiera funds (e.g. W8-BEN)
Monitor the tax status of each fund and oversee the various tax elections (e.g. mutual fund trust vs unit trust)
Manage the year-end tax review process with the funds’ auditor
Must have requirements to be successful in this role:
Two (2) years or more of experience in Fund Accounting
Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint
Knowledge of IFRS
Strong analytical skills for problem resolution
Organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities
Ability to work independently and interact effectively in a group environment
Results oriented with a strong capacity to work under pressure with tight deadlines
Bilingualism (French and English), spoken and written is an asset
Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of investment fund accounting and taxation
Strong analytical skills towards the Funds’ NAV review & oversight process
Demonstrates energy and a desire to succeed; follows through on commitments; pushes self and others to deliver exceptional results
Demonstrated ability to identify risks and control gaps in processes and successfully delivering process improvement. Ability to drive the implementation of new technology
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
Ability to develop comprehensive project plans and drive the successful implementation of key business initiatives
Strong organizational skills with attention to deadlines
