Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey's Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Opportunity

Vale recognizes the Impacts and Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation and the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu and Inuit workers have first preference for employment at the Voisey's Bay Mine Site. This is guided by an adjacency principle that first gives preference to those who live on the coast of Labrador, followed by those residing in the rest of Labrador, those residing on the island of the province, followed by the rest of Canada.

Next, priority will be given to Newfoundland and Labrador residents. We also welcome those who are willing to relocate back home and those looking to make NL their permanent home.

We are currently seeking aSenior IT Analyst to join our Technology End User Computing (EUC) team in Voisey's Bay, NL. This is a permanent position.

This position is based at the Voisey's Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This position is on a two week on, two week off rotation.

The IT Analyst will provide support to the End User Computing (EUC) team to manage delivery of assigned services. EUC services include deskside PC (Personal Computers) support, printing, mass notification, paging, analog/VoIP phones, radio communication systems, mobility, video conferencing, and voice/data cabling. The analyst partners with both the business and technology areas to ensure services are aligned with business requirements, IT policies and standards optimizing cost.

The job functions will evolve to become more strategic and senior over time. As such, the successful candidate will need to present soft skills that demonstrate the ability to learn and grow on the job.

In this position, you will:

  • Ensure availability of EUC services and infrastructure including critical voice communications infrastructure (repeaters, controllers, portables, mobiles etc.).
  • Capture EUC infrastructure demands, prioritize, schedule, and coordinate on-site activities together with various stakeholders including third parties.
  • Perform end to end service management duties for assigned cross functional services.
  • Support the Business Partner and EUC team to continually look for opportunities to improve current EUC services and processes.
  • Collaborate with multiple Technology stakeholders to support centrally managed technology infrastructure projects and services needing on-site hands and eyes support.
  • Provide asset management, SLA (Service Level Agreements) reporting and cost oversight for assigned managed services.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of IT technology and systems to support the direction for the associated technology and its use.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to perform technical analysis and troubleshooting of Technology infrastructure while practicing a sense of ownership to resolve issues.
  • Actively demonstrate that health, safety, and risk management are a pre-condition for performing work at Vale.

About You

Education:

  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technician, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of digital trunked radio, voice and data radio, wireless communications systems, microwave, telecommunications, and data networking is required.
  • Experience in a mining or similar industrial environment is an asset.
  • Experience with contract and procurement management is an asset.
  • ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) or project management experience is an asset.

Skills:

  • Fluent in English (written and oral)
  • Proven success in collaborating with multiple stakeholders to deliver IT services.
  • Demonstrate ability to follow up on issues independently and ensure they are resolved promptly, escalating when necessary.
  • Able to analyze complex issues and think critically from multiple perspectives and provide strategic recommendations based on requirements.
  • Ability to work in a virtual team environment.
  • Strong initiative and effective ownership of task management.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic networks, cabling, and audio-visual infrastructure.
  • Knowledgeable in health, safety, and risk management practices in an industrial workplace.
