Osler is currently recruiting for a Senior Pursuit Specialist to manage the complete life cycle of a proposal response from RFP/opportunity initiation through to content development, project management of the pursuit, and finally submission. This role will support Osler offices across Canada. Please note, this is a Senior level role requiring the leadership to develop winning pitch strategies.

The Senior Pursuits Specialist will manage all aspects of the proposal process starting with the assessment of the client’s needs and writing custom content through to overseeing print production and conducting post-award debriefs with clients. The incumbent will collaborate with Firm partners, business development directors, and internal subject matter experts to create highly customized proposals.

Please note, the successful candidate can reside in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver or Calgary.

Major Responsibilities

  • Manage the proposal development lifecycle including coordinating and guiding strategic proposal meetings/calls with key stakeholders to clarify an approach and gather sufficient internal information to customize proposals and presentations, prepare proposal work-back schedules, and ensure sufficient timelines are in place
  • Write compelling content
  • Participate in the development of fee models
  • Continuously improve the proposal process from opportunity evaluation, strategy development, post-bid evaluation, best practices and firm wide education
  • Coordinate workload and requests to ensure that all proposals are delivered in a timely and effective manner
  • Evaluate opportunities and make recommendations regarding the go/no process
  • Ensure the client’s needs and the broader business context is reflected in proposals
  • Conduct post competition debriefs
  • Proofread all documents for clarity and accuracy
  • Maintain and contribute to content libraries
  • Ensure all activities are tracked, measured and reported on

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

This position requires a university or college diploma (preferably in marketing or communications) plus a minimum of 5 years of proposal writing, editing and formatting experience with professional services organizations. French language skills are considered an asset.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Advanced writing (highly structured, concise and persuasive) with extensive experience writing executive summaries
  • Ability to clarify complex information
  • Ability to identify value propositions and differentiators
  • Confident and proactive, able to interact with all levels of management and legal professionals
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
  • Personal integrity, discretion and a strong client service orientation is essential
  • Extremely well organized with superb attention to detail and excellent time management skills
  • Ability to manage several proposals simultaneously
  • Willing to work evenings or on weekends to meet proposal deadlines
  • Expert in MS Office including PowerPoint, MS Outlook and Excel
  • Experience with any of the following: SharePoint, CRM (InterAction / SalesForce) considered a plus
  • Demonstrated self-starter and highly motivated to handle a fast paced environment
  • A team player who also works well independently
