Stone Splitter Operator - Madoc

ROLE SUMMARY
Stone Splitter Operator at Upper Canada Stone Co will take a lead role in the production, processing and quality of output of split stone, assist with maintenance and repair, operating mobile machinery as needed to load and store material
Must understand and adhere to all safety regulations, perform daily inspections and follow splitting campaign instructions closely

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform daily equipment, walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained
• Precisely follow splitting orders and campaigns for various products
• Safely and properly perform minor maintenance (lubricating, cleaning)
• Safely and properly operate areas of the splitter area
• Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written)
• Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills and be respectful of others
• Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.)
• Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors

NORMAL AND OCCASIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

• May be required to lift heavy objects up to fifty pounds during the course of the workday.
• Required to wear personal protective equipment when performing this work. The work is in a mining, rock crushing environment which requires hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required by applicable law
• This work is in a stone quarrying setting which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, high levels of noise, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, fumes or airborne dust particles

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

• Meet all requested splitting project deadlines as indicated by Foreman & G.M.
• Provide Production Reports and Labour logs daily to Quarry Office by end of each day

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Able to work in fast paced work environment at times with quick turnaround expectations
• Handling multiple and conflicting priorities
• Effective communication skills
• Lifting up to 50 lbs
• Bending, crawling, stretching, pushing and pulling are some of the daily physical demands in tight areas at times
• Understanding and working knowledge of LEAN and Best Practices Management is an asset
