We are currently hiring Stores and Procurement Supervisor to join the team at our Evaporation facility in Goderich, ON.

Compass Minerals’ Goderich Plant has operated since 1867, after an unsuccessful search for oil uncovered a vast bed of rock salt under Goderich. Using mechanical evaporation, the plant produces high-purity, fine- and coarse-grained salt products in packages and in bulk for commercial, agricultural and industrial applications. The plant also packages rock salt from the mine that is used for deicing and water conditioning.

Goderich is named Canada’s Prettiest Town and is best known for its stunning sunsets. Goderich is a lakeside community of 8,000 people located approximately 1.5 hours from London and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.


HOW WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following

Summary: As the Supervisor of Procurement and Stores, this position is responsible for the safe and effective daily operations and leadership of the Compass Minerals Procurement and Stores site organization at Goderich Plant. These duties consist in part of leading, directing, participating in and managing a team responsible for all aspects of negotiation, ordering, and contract management as well as optimizing the direct raw materials, packaging materials, and maintenance repairs and operations (MRO) inventory levels.

This position is also responsible for the effectively sourcing, negotiating, contracting and Procurement of acceptable, high quality equipment, materials, and contractor services required for the completion of capital projects, at the site. This position will work closely with maintenance and engineering and other capital projects team members to help prepare RFP and RFQ documents, evaluate supplier proposals, recommend and select targeted suppliers for commercial terms negotiations and the generation of project agreements.

  • Promotes and monitors a culture conducive to generating ongoing improvements in Safety, Quality, Costs, Efficiency, Capital Spending, Employee Engagement and Continuous Improvement Process.
  • Manages, leads and mentors a current team of one stores assistant and indirectly supports Amherst and Unity purchasing functions.
  • Effectively establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and duties performed by direct reports.
  • Develop, manage and maintain cohesive site procurement methods, techniques and communications with internal and external stakeholders, suppliers and contractors that are consistent with Compass Minerals policies and procedures.
  • Provide robust assistance in utilizing data-driven tools.
  • Supplier evaluation and qualification control.
  • Create and manage Supply risk mitigation controls.
  • Create and manage suppliers’ Diversity and Inclusion programs.
  • Identify and deliver cost reduction ideas with supplier partners to obtain industry-leading solutions and best-in-class results.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify spend under management opportunities for potential cost savings and/or vendor upgrades.
  • Identify and help maintain optimal MRO inventory levels to maximize inventory turns, reduce exposure of aged inventory, avoid stock conditions and reduce inventory carrying costs while adhering to SOX cycle count requirements.
  • Responsible for effective purchasing of capital and project work, ensuring appropriate sourcing, negotiations and contract development, and all related documentation.
  • Expediting of orders and ensuring the quality and timely delivery of goods and components.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business preferred, or equivalent education and/or work experience.
  • Certifications: CPM, PMAC or similar, preferred.
  • Experience in Purchasing/Stores related duties is a asset.
