Plains has an immediate opening for an Operations Leader/Chief Power Engineer at our 1st class Empress facility, reporting directly to the Plant Manager. The successful candidate will join the area management team, providing leadership to a team of front-line leaders and another twenty-four indirect reports. The operations leader will be accountable for managing and monitoring the Empress facility's daily operations, ensuring optimum safety performance, environmental and regulatory compliance, and operations efficiency.

Note: Permanent residency within 120 km of the Empress Facility is a condition of employment. Medicine Hat is the largest city nearby. #plains

Responsibilities:

  • Managing and monitoring the Empress facility's daily operations, ensuring optimum safety performance, environmental and regulatory compliance, and operations efficiency.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to a team of front-line leaders to develop and support a highly Functional team.
  • Leading the hiring, orientation, performance, and career development needs of employees in a union environment, providing strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring for personnel
  • Build and support strong, cross-functional collaborative relationships between maintenance, operations, and support groups.
  • Communicate in a way that is accurate, timely and easy to understand; listen effectively.
  • Carry out the duties of the Chief Power Engineer in a professional manner with respect to the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act for the Province of Alberta.
  • Ensuring the results of internal audits are compliant, and non-complaint findings are addressed through appropriate corrective/preventative action plans.
  • Responsible for integrating with the maintenance planning department ensuring the proper projects are prioritized and worked on accordingly.
  • Responsible for creating and accountable for achieving the operations budget each year.
  • Liaise with various internal departments including technical and mechanical maintenance, engineering, Calgary logistics and Marketing to ensure customer demands are met.
  • Monitoring quality of products coming into and out of the facilities to ensure that product specifications are being met.
  • Scheduling plant rates, shutdowns and turnarounds to achieve safe, efficient and environmentally sound operations.

Qualifications:

  • First class ticket or completion of your 2nd class Power Engineering Certificate with the requirement to attain your 1st Class certificate within a suitable timeframe.
  • Five plus years of leadership experience, previous experience as a leader of leaders would be an asset.
  • Solid understanding of fractionation facilities with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical maintenance for process equipment, pressure vessels and heaters.
  • Energetic, well-organized, self-motivated with effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven track record of supporting and leading highly functional diverse teams.
  • Ability to manage a multitude of priorities in a fast paced and changing environment.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean abstract.
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.
  • Compliance with the Company's drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing.
