About this job:
We are looking for a Vice President, Senior Treaty Underwriter for our Property and Casualty portfolio in Toronto, Canada. This position plays a key leadership role in developing, underwriting, and servicing the Property & Casualty portfolio and has significant input on the underwriting strategy for the Branch.
You will report directly to the P&C SVP, Head of Canada, and Chief Agent of Partner Reinsurance of the U.S. Canada Branch

About the role:
Your day-to-day role will include:
Building and managing a profitable and sustainable book of business in the target growth areas of Property & Casualty business; with the objective of optimizing our portfolio. This will include conducting extensive review and analysis of submissions, and thorough analysis of the primary operations, products, and management teams of clients.
Developing and managing a sustainable and profitable Property & Casualty book of business with the objective of optimizing our portfolio.
Working closely and collaboratively with the P&C NA Treaty Underwriters, Pricing Actuaries, Catastrophe Modeling team and other Business Units and support functions.
Developing and maintaining strong relationships with brokers and clients to ensure a continuous flow of business.
Hire, manage train and develop underwriting Associate(s)
Qualifications
About you:
Here are some of the qualifications and attributes you will need to succeed in the role:
Education:
A university degree is required.
Industry designations such as CIP or FCIP are preferred.
Experience and Knowledge:
Minimum of 10+ years of experience in progressively senior underwriting roles.
Strong people leader, with a minimum of 3+ years’ experience in managing diverse teams of technical professionals
Highly credible treaty underwriter with strong technical skills, deep experience underwriting in Property & Casualty Lines and preferably with a strong Casualty background.
Thorough understanding of the primary insurance market and of policy forms, pricing schemes, and the role and impact of claims, actuarial and finance in the underwriting process.
Deep knowledge of the broker market and the capability to identify good and bad pieces of business.
Strong relationships with brokers and clients.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluency in French would be an asset.
Ability to grasp complex mathematical concepts and an understanding of modeling in the decision-making process.

Exceptional analytical skills - capable of quickly assessing opportunities.
Ability to negotiate diplomatically through challenging situations.
Collaborative, a true “team player”, yet willing to take a stand on issues and push back when appropriate.
Ability to influence and engage C suite executives as well as clients/brokers – this role requires executive presence and strong presentation skills.
Approachable, an active listener and patient in transferring knowledge.
Highly disciplined and goal oriented.
Strong ability to prioritize and multi-task to ensure timely and successful completion of tasks.

PartnerRe is currently implementing a hybrid work agreement which requires the incumbent to be in our downtown Toronto office Tuesday – Thursday (Monday and Friday are WFH days)
