About the role
The Métis Cultural Awareness Specialist will work across branches to deliver the MNO’s Métis Cultural Safety in Healthcare program. The program will build upon existing resources to provide Métis-specific cultural safety training within and across healthcare settings in Ontario through a repository of Métis cultural safety training and media-education campaigns.
The Specialist will oversee the design, development and deployment of the online curriculum through a Learning Management System and will be the MNO point of contact for the media campaign. The Specialist is responsible for creating an educational experience for learners involved with delivering health services that successfully teaches them about Métis history, culture and way of life to build understanding that will address the racism and discrimination in Canada’s health systems.
What you will be doing
  • Oversee and coordinate the overall development of the Métis Cultural Safety in Healthcare training program, including developing the course curriculum and media campaign.
  • Produce, publish, and manage online lesson content on the ET’s Learning Management System.
  • Develop materials for courses, based on information provided by subject matter experts and feedback from the ET Curriculum team to create the best coursework possible.
  • Utilize specialized knowledge, education and experience to meet program, branch and organizational needs.
  • Conduct project evaluation using various research and evaluation tools to identify areas for improvement and expansion.
  • Respond to the needs of internal and external clients as required.
  • Research and prepare detailed and accurate reports, briefing notes and presentations.
  • Deal with confidential and sensitive issues promptly, with tact, discretion, maturity and judgment.
  • Collaborate and work effectively as a team with MNO colleagues and other partners.
  • Develop communication tools to enhance understanding of issues and increase usage of the training program.
  • Organize initiatives and plan events.
  • Coordinate the design and distribution of media releases, promotional material, responses to queries and comments and networking during events.
  • Promote, track, and measure compliance with program funding requirements by creating and implementing appropriate data collection, reporting, and record-keeping processes.
  • Review and assess requirements needed to meet project timelines.
  • Other reasonable duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications:Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Education, English or Communications
  • Certificate in Instructional Design from a recognized college.
  • Demonstrated interest in Métis culture, history and way of life
  • Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
  • Membership in an accredited association related to the profession (varies by position)
  • A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment.
  • Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Strong project coordination, including designing and implementing project work plans.
  • Outstanding organizational and planning abilities.
  • Highly detail-oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands and assess changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work alone/independently with minimal supervision
  • Skilled in learning management system software.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with the ability to maintain positive relationships with local and provincial health agencies.
  • Ability to promote activities, curriculum and learning opportunities to benefit learners by enhancing their understanding and knowledge of Métis health care needs and best practices.
  • Ability to design, develop and deliver innovative curriculum utilizing a variety of mediums to ensure maximum learning outcomes across the province.
  • Knowledge of online hybrid learning modules.
  • Teaching experience with adult learners.
  • Pedagogical skills: student instruction and classroom behaviour.
  • Experience with creating student assessments and evaluations for online learning.
Preferred:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in education or similar field of study (curriculum or instructional design)
  • Experience working with Talent Learning Management Systems.
  • Bilingualism
Experience:Required:
  • Three years of related experience in online curriculum design and development, researching, designing, delivering, evaluating and refining educational development programs, services, and resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to write high-quality evidence and data-based reports and professional presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability in program development and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire and expand knowledge quickly and to be flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment.
  • Experience with media campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience in a project management capacity, including experience with all aspects of process development and execution.
  • Experience coordinating academic programs, compiling and analyzing data, and writing reports.
  • Experience in copywriting and editing.
  • Synchronous and asynchronous teaching experience.
Preferred:
  • Previous 5-7 years or more experience in a similar/comparable role.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets and deliverables using project management software or other processes.
Positions at the MNO may require the following:
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
  • Completion and maintenance of Vulnerable Sector Verification
  • This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's licence. The successful candidate would have to provide proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired as well as a reliable vehicle (or ability to rent), $1,000,000 liability insurance, and a clean driving record
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as necessary
  • Ability to occasionally travel within Ontario for limited periods
