The Facilities Construction Management (FCM) department of the Infrastructure Services Division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Labourer I. Reporting to the FCM Operations Supervisor, this position offers up to 76.5 hours bi-weekly, starting as soon as possible.
Labourer I is responsible for performing and assisting tradespersons with various labour tasks in the maintenance and construction of both the Operations and Capital Projects sides of Facility Construction Management. Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors, is labour intensive, and supports the FCM department to provide a safe and secure building environment to all staff and visitors in municipal facilities.
Qualified candidates have a grade 12 diploma, at least 6 months of directly related experience in a similar role including experience with hand and power tools, and the ability to work safely within the proximity of equipment and machinery. Qualified candidates demonstrate a well-developed safety awareness and knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in building construction and maintenance, awareness of the hazards and necessary safety precautions, and knowledge of the applicable regulations related to this work. Candidates must be physically able to perform moderate to heavy indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

The successful candidate also demonstrates a commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace within their team and will create and maintain effective working relationships with others while contributing to a positive team work environment. The starting wage for this position is $32.91 an hour.
As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract prior to beginning employment.
