WHISTLER FIRE RESCUE SERVICE
PAID ON CALL FIREFIGHTER - APPLICANT INFORMATION

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Whistler Fire Rescue Service. The Whistler Fire Rescue Service is a composite Department consisting of 24 Career staff and 50-60 Paid On Call Members operating out of 3 fire halls. The Whistler Fire Rescue Service offers you the opportunity to serve the community in an exciting and challenging environment. QUESTION & ANSWER SESSION
Interested applicants are invited to attend a Question & Answer Session at Fire Hall 1 on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 7:00 pm.

APPLICATION PACKAGE

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • You must be a full-time resident of Whistler and legally entitled to work in Canada
  • You must have a valid BC driver’s license and a satisfactory driver’s abstract to submit at a later stage
  • You must maintain a cell phone and email account

RECRUITMENT AND QUALIFYING PROCESS
  • Application packages will be accepted via the RMOW application online portal to 11:30pm, Tuesday, April 23, 2024
  • Written aptitude testing for short-listed candidates will be conducted on Saturday, May 25, 2024 starting at 9:00 am, followed by Online psychometric testing for those candidates who successfully complete the written test
  • Physical testing (for those passing the psychometric testing) will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 10:00 am
  • Interviews for short-listed applicants will be scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 17, 18 and 19, 2024 from 3:00-9:00 pm
  • Successful applicants will be required to provide a driver’s abstract and Police Information Check with the Vulnerable Sector check (PIC w VS) as a condition of the position
  • Recruit Training Program – Self-study course throughout summer months with practical sessions starting September 2024

TRAINING COMMITMENT
The Paid On Call Recruit Training Program is intensive and requires a considerable time commitment. A pre-reading element will be required prior to the commencement of practical training sessions. Practical training sessions for Exterior Firefighter Operations will run from September to November 2024. Upon completion of this training, successful candidates will be placed at their assigned fire hall for weekly regular training, which occurs on Wednesday evenings 1900-2100 hrs. In addition, practical training sessions for Interior Firefighter Operations will run from March to May 2025.
