Job Description:
The Lead Hand for this project will be expected to work with the Climate Change Manager with the goal of collecting seeds or cuttings, growing, and planting 50,000 trees per year to reach our commitments for our funding from Natural Resources Canada.
The Lead Hand will organize, implement, and report the day-to-day activities of the new Muskeg Lake Tree Nursery greenhouse that was built in 2023. The successful applicant will be responsible for keeping the project on task, overseeing seasonal staff, collaborating with schools and youth to grow seedlings, preparing sites for planting, and working closely with the Climate Change Manager to stay on task and achieve our goals of the project.
Term: April 1st, 2024, to March 31st, 2025.

Primary Duties and Tasks
Organize and take a lead role in the operations of the tree nursery greenhouse and surrounding grounds at the direction of the Food Security and Climate Change Manager
Establish the environmental conditions required to grow trees, shrubs, and plants, and design planting and care schedules accordingly.
Ensure the correct type, quantity and quality of required nursery and planting stock is grown
Supervise staff in maintenance, planting, transplanting, feeding, and watering stock
Identify and control insect, disease and weed problems
Order materials such as fertilizer, nursery propagation equipment, and other landscape, nursery, and greenhouse related items as directed by the Food Security and Climate Change Manager
Maintain records on stock, personnel, and project timelines
