Job Summary

What is the opportunity?
We are looking for a strong critical thinker with a high level of energy and curiousity to join our Venture Capital and Private Equity (“VC/PE”) team in Toronto as a 2024 Summer Analyst. RBC Capital Partners (“RBCP”) is the VC/PE investment platform of RBC, operating within the Corporate Development group, and we are responsible for all of RBC’s venture investing activities. More broadly RBCP’s mandate includes both direct VC and 3rd party managed VC and PE fund investments. As an Analyst, principally you will take the lead to build out our VC & PE fund performance benchmarking database and otherwise work with us to refine and improve some of our performance reporting practices.
The position is fully accountable to the Managing Director, Head Venture Capital & Private Equity for successful achievement of agreed upon goals and objectives, contributing to a high level of performance, operational effectiveness, and sustainable value for RBCP. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with all members of RBCP’s investment team, as well as build their network with select 3rd party VC and PE fund partners in RBCP’s portfolio.

Job Description

What will you do?

As part of our VC & PE team you will take the lead to aggregate internal fund performance data and reach out to our external fund partners to collect additional data as appropriate. Beyond this and where time permits you will work our team to highlight opportunities to improve our reporting for improved clarity, value and effectiveness:

  • Work alongside our VC & PE investment and finance teams to aggregate and understand fund level performance data;

  • Connect with our Fund partners to determine where we are able to update fund performance data across their family of funds

  • You will take the lead in developing our fund performance reporting framework;

  • You will get exposure to our VC & PE investing activities and where appropriate you will have the opportunity to work on specific investments

Must-have

  • Strong teamwork skills with ability to work well within a small team

  • Critical thinking skills combined with a good understanding of business and financial concepts

  • Entrepreneurial attitude.

  • Exceptional analytical skills, detail-oriented, proactive, and self-motivated.

  • Strong written and oral communication/presentation skills

  • Good financial modelling skills. Advanced skills with Excel, PowerPoint and Word

  • Ability to work in-office (200 Bay Street, Toronto) at least 3 days per week

Nice-to-have

  • Some exposure to VC and PE fund investing
