Job description

Northern Lights Public Schools is located in the heart of Alberta’s Lakeland region, which offers residents a multitude of outdoor recreation opportunities and stunning displays of the Aurora Borealis. The division is focused on ensuring all students have the opportunity to succeed and has designated numeracy and student mental health and wellness as division priorities.

Northern Lights Public Schools invites applications for the following position:

A2425-06 Assistant Principal - Nelson Heights School

This is a full-time position commencing with the start of the 2024-2025 school year . Nelson Heights School is located in the City of Cold Lake with approximately 260 students in grades 4-6. With a continued focus on academics, moral intelligence, athletics, and fine arts, Nelson Heights School provides a well-rounded program that will nurture students through their formative years. The division is seeking a dedicated and caring leader who will support the Principal to create a welcoming learning environment where all students learn and excel.

Reporting directly to the Principal, the successful candidate will:

Ensure effective educational programming and school activities for students

Develop and nurture a positive, supportive and inclusive school culture

Assist the Principal to provide effective instructional leadership to school staff

Work collaboratively with division office staff, the school admin team and staff, students and the School Council to achieve the goals of the school and the division

Assist the Principal effectively manage school operations and resources

Nurture strong relationships with students, staff, parents and the school community

Teach courses that may be assigned by the Principal

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Possess a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate

Proven excellence as a classroom teacher and commitment to student success

Possess or be eligible to achieve the Alberta Leadership Quality Standards Certificate

Previous school administration experience is an asset

The ability to work effectively with diverse student and parent groups

Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills

Commitment to lifelong learning and professional improvement

A strong background in leadership skills and effective instructional practices
