Activities & Experiences Host (Full Time)

The Aquatarium at Tall Ships Landing is a 27,000ft² not-for-profit interactive science and educational facility whose mission is to inspire curiosity through enriching and entertaining experiences in the Thousand Islands. Successful candidates will be trained to successfully and efficiently take the lead in creating these memorable experiences for guests in various areas of the facility, including the escape room, birthday parties, the high ropes course and the tunnel train. Successful candidates will be flexible, performing duties in many sections of the Aquatarium’s experience department. Duties will include but are not limited to maintaining standards and guiding guests on the ropes course, operating and offering rides to guests on the train, and organizing and running birthday parties. Activities and Experiences Hosts will be trained in the proper use of harnesses, safety equipment, repelling, rescues and climbing as well as how to properly operate the train to ensure the safety and security of the equipment, our guests and staff. Activities and Experiences Hosts should be active, lighthearted and able to engage with the public.

Will need to…

• Work with all staff and management for the Rope Course/AquaDrop and ensure proper safety protocols are followed by guests and staff alike.
• Complete rescue practice and ensure competency when all practices have been completed.
• Encouraging guests to try the ropes course during low times, by interacting and showing guests how to have fun.
• Drive the train down a designated path confidently and safely while being aware of other vehicles and people.
• Be able to drive the train from the Aquatarium to the starting point in the morning and back to the Aquatarium at the end of the day.
• Ensure that the train is in working condition each day and that all components are secure.
• Guiding guests and preparing the escape experience between uses.
• Work with the AQ Experiences Coordinator to ensure that all maintenance and equipment safety checks are completed as per industry specifications.
• Bring any safety concerns to the AQ Experiences Coordinator immediately.
• Must be friendly yet able to give specific safety directions to guests of all ages.
• Follow all health and safety regulations, ensuring Health & Safety rules and regulations are adhered to.
• Work as a team member with fellow staff.
• Punctuality, motivation and enthusiasm are essential.
• Time management is key.

May need to…

• Assist in setting up for birthday parties including moving tables and chairs and decorating.
• Provide a fun and professional experience for party guests.
• Able to supervise party guests.
• Cleaning up the party room once the guests have departed.
• While delivering science experiment activities, able to effectively deliver the information and teach the concepts to the groups in a fun way.
• Willingness to wear the mascot costume for at least 30 minutes at a time.
• Perform other duties, as required.

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $16.55 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 32 per week
