Job Information

Under the direction of the Recreational Therapist, you will assist in implementing activity programs for residents of the Yellowknife Region Long Term Care and/or Extended Care Homes, promoting self-worth, independence, physical and mental well-being, and socialization. You will ensure adherence to the GNWT Inclusive and Respectful Workplaces and Living Well Together policies and training. You will provide clerical assistance to staff and residents in accordance with the Supportive Pathways (Carewest) model of care adopted by the NTHSSA to ensure efficient service to residents, families, and staff.

As an Activity Aide, you will organize and implement appropriate activities for residents of the Long-Term Care/Extended Care Home. You will also be responsible for organizing and implementing activities for residents in a Long-Term Care/Extended Care Home, as well as maintaining equipment and supplies. In this role, you will be assisting the Recreation Therapist in administering the Activity Program and providing clerical assistance to ensure efficient service and continuity of care. Other duties include assisting with client transfers, serving food, and presenting at meetings. Monthly reports are submitted to the Clinical Coordinator to keep them informed of resident attendance and behaviour.

The ideal candidate for this position should have personal care experience, formal training in various crafts, or related experience. They must possess organizational skills, good verbal and written communication, and cross-cultural awareness. Additionally, they should be able to work with people of different ages, backgrounds, and reduced physical or psychological functional capacities. Commitment to practicing personal diversity, inclusion, cultural awareness, safety, and sensitivity in the workplace is also required.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
University or college training in a related field (preferred adult focus). Minimum of 2 years related experience (preferred in a clinical setting).
Applied use of Word, Excel and related computer programs. Class 5 driver's license for client outings.
