ABOUT THE UPPER GRAND DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD (UGDSB)

The UGDSB employs a team of approximately 4,000 dedicated staff who serve more than 35,000 students attending a variety of programs across 65 elementary and 11 secondary schools as well as continuing education and adult learning centres in the counties of Dufferin, Wellington, and the City of Guelph. The UGDSB covers the ancestral and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Six Nations of the Grand River, and Saugeen Ojibway Nation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Upper Grand District School Board is seeking a dynamic Administrative Officer, Staffing & RecruitmentSupport Staffto join our People, Leadership and Culture team.

Reporting to the Staffing Supervisor – Support Staff, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support and guidance to supervisory personnel in a variety of HR matters for their assigned Support Staff portfolio.

Location: Guelph Board Office (500 Victoria Road N., Guelph, ON)

Salary Range: $76,343 - $91,543 (per annum, 40 hours per week, 12 month position)

Board Information: 1.0 FTE; permanent, full-time; Administrative Employees

Responsibilities

  • Full cycle recruitment and selection (job postings, liaise/coordinate with various advertisement agencies, community partners, post secondary institutions, coordinate and attend recruitment fairs etc.)
  • Develop interview guides, schedule and participate in interviews, complete reference checks, prepare employment offers/transfers
  • Inputting new hires, employee changes and other relevant information into the HRIS
  • Chair the staffing process for the applicable group(s) assigned to your portfolio ensuring sound/accurate position occupancy tracking and management.
  • Administering and tracking employee leave requests, transfers, seniority lists.
  • Provide assistance and responding to various stakeholders (employees, Administrators, Union) on a variety of HR matters, primarily pertaining to staffing/hiring and leaves, including but not limited to, interpretation and application of relevant collective agreements, employment legislation and applicable board policies.
  • Participate in relevant committees and meetings as required (i.e. Labour Management, Bargaining).
  • Performs other duties as assigned to grow and develop as an HR professional.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education with additional courses in human resources management combined with a CHRP designation or qualifications/experience deemed equivalent by the Board.
  • Minimum of three years of recent, related and professional experience in Human Resources to include a recruitment and/or staffing focus.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to interpret/apply relevant employment legislation and collective agreements.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft products (Excel/Word), Google Docs and other databases.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and courteously with all levels of staff, external contacts, and the general public.
  • Sound problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills combined with the ability to work under pressure to meet competing deadlines, with a strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to work independently in an organized manner, and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Initiative, sound judgement and a high degree of discretion when dealing with confidential information.
  • Demonstrated understanding of commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Experience in a unionized/school board/public sector organization would be an asset.
