OVERVIEW

The Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) Mental Health (MH) Services has advanced clinical preparation at the graduate level in nursing or other relevant clinical designation (social work, behaviour analysis, or etc.) and uses in-depth knowledge, research and clinical expertise to support clinical excellence in the provision of care to individuals, families, and groups requiring Mental Health and Substance Use care.

The APC MH provides leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of program changes for both inpatient and outpatient services to enhance access to and quality of patient care. The APC MH is responsible for integrating and advancing clinical excellence by identifying, applying and evaluating best practices, and works with others to develop a culture of patient centered care using advanced knowledge of change management. The APC MH also provides collaborative leadership, coaching and mentoring to enhance the development of evidence-based nursing practice and research withinthe Mental Health and Substance Use program and hospital-wide. EDUCATION

  • Master's degree in Nursing or other Mental Health-related fields required.
  • In good standing with the appropriate college is required.
  • Membership in professional organizations
  • If holding a Master’s degree in Nursing, CNA certification in Psychiatric/ Mental Health Nursing an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in Mental Health and/or addiction services in an acute care hospital or tertiary hospital setting, including at least 2 years in an inpatient setting.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience as an Educator in Mental Health and Substance preferred.
  • Demonstrated in-depth clinical expertise regarding care of patients and families with Mental Health problems and knowledge of the continuum of services in Mental Health care.
  • Sound knowledge of legislation pertaining to Mental Health services and the Mental Health Act.
  • Experience working in an advanced clinical practice role, educational role or leadership role preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner using well developed leadership, critical thinking, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated sound interpersonal, team development and conflict management skills.
  • Evidence of sound knowledge and skills in adult education.
  • Knowledge of models ofcare regarding interprofessional practice and education.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill with regard to patient safety, change leadership, project management and evaluation.
  • Strong critical thinking, strategic thinking, and analytic skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with multiple teams.
  • Exceptional research and report writing skills.
  • Sound oral presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Experience in conducting systematic reviews and structured literature reviews.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to work occasional early or late shifts and weekends to support operational or staff education need.
  • Excellent work and attendance record required.
  • Must be willing to be on call as required.
  • Sound computer skills required (Microsoft office), experience with developing data bases an asset
