Northern College is seeking an Advising Assistant in our Advising department. The successful candidate will possess organizational skills, effective communication skills (verbal and written), critical thinking and time management skills, and excellent computer skills (MS Office Suite).

Reporting to the Timmins Campus Manager, the successful candidate will provide clerical and administrative support services to the Advising Department at the Timmins Campus.

What you will be doing:
  • Acts as the first point of contact for Advising Services by providing excellent customer service and greeting everyone who enters the department;
  • Provides support to students who are presenting in an emotional state by ensuring they are provided a private space and offering guidance and support;
  • Ensures referrals to appropriate support staff member/advisor/faculty/coordinator for students seeking support and/or direction; and
  • Organize and coordinate workshops and other student life activities in conjunction with the advisors.
What you will need to be considered:
  • 1 year certificate in Office Administration, or Human Services, or another relevant field of study; and
  • Minimum of (2) years of related and progressive work experience. Clerical and/or receptionist experience with knowledge of office procedures and computer applications is required.
